Is Secretary appointed?[edit]

I'm unclear on how the Secretary General is picked. Does the Council of the EU vote him/her in? The Council and the EU Parliament? Or is he/she selected based on some bureaucratic criteria? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.248.149.215 (talk) 09:40, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Appointed per normal EU procedures - which mean that a lot of insider knowledge is needed, so usually an established hand, in the latest case one of the PermReps. https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/press/press-releases/2015/04/21/new-secretary-general-mikkelsen/
