Importance of this page[edit]

This page deserves a lot of attention and the importance rank should be increased - this test has been extensively evaluated in many developing world situations in children and adults and represents a great advance over all available technologies in use.

Furthermore, whilst the test is relatively expensive, the cost-effectiveness analyses indicate that it is cost-effective. I don't have the time to put to this yet. In saying this I have no conflicts of interest to declare. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mdjkf (talkcontribs) 00:17, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GeneXpert now being used for SARS-CoV testing[edit]

This article may be quite out of date. At a press conference on 10 April 2020, the NSW Premier announced the GeneXpert system was being trialled for SARS-Cov-2 (the virus that causes CoVid-19 in humans) screening in Broken Hill, NSW, Australia. There are a broad range of tests already available via the Cepheid GeneXpert system is described here: https://p.widencdn.net/psq91e/Cepheid-GeneXpert-System-Menu-Flyer-CE-IVD-0293-English And here: https://www.cepheid.com/en/tests At this time, Coronavirus is not listed. But the GX system is clearly used for a broad range of microbiological testing. Searching WP for GeneXpert redirects here to Tuberculosis specific testing on the GX system. This is not within my area of knowledge, so hoping someone else can pick this up as a timely issue, in the expectation that use of GX during the 2020 Covid pandemic may be expanded. I declare I have no commercial interest or relationship with the system manufacturer or its vendors. I simply heard the name GeneXpert during a press conference about the Coronavirus pandemic and came looking for information. Prime Lemur (talk) 02:59, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's a bit out of date, given that Genexpert MTB/RIF Ultra has replaced TB/RIF in most developed nations since 2017 and most labs worldwide by now I assume. Putting SARS-CoV-2 info on this page would be like putting PUBG info on the Fortnite article, they're both video games played on PC's but completely different games. Likewise the Genexpert MTB/RIF is different to the Xpert Xpress SARS-CoV-2, they're both run on Genexpert machines but different assays. I'm a little surprised that an assay has its own Wikipedia article, but that's what happens when the WHO encourages the use of your assay. Serrin (talk) 05:11, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
