Definitions of I, J, and K[edit]

This may seem like a dumb question, but I don’t see any definition of the symbols $\mathbf {\hat {I}}$ , $\mathbf {\hat {J}}$ , and $\mathbf {\hat {K}}$ . What do they represent?

Looks like they represent the components along three perpendicular axes of a space vector. In other words, where he has for example, a vector:

$\mathbf {\hat {R}}$ = (formula 1) $\mathbf {\hat {I}}$ + (formula 2) $\mathbf {\hat {J}}$ + (formula 3) $\mathbf {\hat {K}}$

he means

X component of R = (formula 1)

Y component of R = (formula 2)
