Untitled[edit]

I had to revert to an earlier edit. "Anti-caste" does not equate as "anti-Hindu". Just because some scholar is protesting against caste discrimination does not mean that that scholar's work should be perceived as being anti-Hindu. There are anti-caste but pro-Hindu scholars as well! LordGulliverofGalben

Can you please let me know which "anti-caste but pro-Hindu" scholars you are referring to? It is my understanding that caste is an integral part of Hinduism. Without caste, Hinduism (a.k.a. Brahmanism) doesn't really exist, right? Islaywombats (talk) 07:43, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All she rants about is Hinduism and Caste, Hindutva and Fascism, etc. IF you want cittations I'll try and find some. I myself find the system archaic.Bakaman 04:51, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Could use an infobox. Aboutmovies 06:39, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure what "anti-caste" means. One would think it is about de-recognition of castes. Obviously that is not the intended meaning. It appears to be a euphemism for "anti-Brahmin" and "anti-Hindu". Is there a reason scholars opposed to Hinduism cannot be called "anti-Hindu"? Malaiya (talk) 18:28, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Controversy and criticism" section expanded[edit]

I have considerably extended the "Controversy and criticism" section of Gail Omvedt because it was unnaturally thin. I have added a direct quotation from Andre Beteille specifically addressing what he asserts as the conflation of race with caste, and the "Marxist critique" of her (purported) advocacy for "peasant solidarity" as opposed to a "class-based" ideology.
