Loco's retirement from service[edit]

Redrose64 deleted the paragraph on Olton Hall's impending retirement from active service stating that it was 'inadequately sourced'. His opinion on what constitutes adequate and inadequate is exactly that - his opinion. The claim is sourced, and sourced from a company that actually operates the locomotive on England's railways. They should be aware of where she is going after they have finished with her. I also don't understand his point about WP:NOTPROMOTION. I assume this refers to the Harry Potter museum. It can hardly be considered undesired promotion of a business when the museum has its own article. DieSwartzPunkt (talk) 14:44, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is the edit. It's ephemeral because articles concerning steam locomotives attract a high level of WP:RECENTISM (such as: where the loco may be seen next) that is tantamount to blogging, which Wikipedia is not. It's promotional because it's drawing attention to a future railtour, and the only source is the company operating that railtour. It's inadequately sourced because the brochure of a company in the tourist business falls well below our requirements for reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Has it been described in e.g. The Railway Magazine?
Also please note that "On the 12th July 2014" goes against WP:DATESNO (it should be "On 12 July 2014") and "sheduled" should be "scheduled". --Redrose64 (talk) 16:08, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Then all we have to do is wait five days and the first part of your argument is totally shot down. Incidentally, the tour operator is specifically mentioned in the article. Also the policy of WP:AGF dictates that you should assume that 'sheduled' was a typo. I cannot comment on the validity of the claim. However, an online search for future steamings for Olton Hall turns up nothing but zero information (suspicious in itself). This is very unusual for any railworthy locomotive particularly on the usual blog sites. I grant that absence of information does not prove anything other than to suggest that there are no further steamings planned. I B Wright (talk) 16:52, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Further information: A search has turned up information that her main line certificate expires in July 2014 (so not as rail worthy as I had assumed). Apparently, this cannot be renewed without some major (i.e. expensive) overhaul and repair work. Her boiler ticket is not due to expire until 2017 when it seems that she will require at least a partial retube (also expensive). Her owner (NRM) may well be unwilling to incur the expense (charities are notoriously mean). I B Wright (talk) 17:13, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Er, where is the tour operator mentioned in the article? The only place I can see it is in the reference that I added. DieSwartzPunkt (talk) 13:37, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's indirectly mentioned. The Railway Touring Company is a subsidiary of West Coast Railways. I B Wright (talk) 17:01, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Preservation NRM Shildon[edit]

The paragraph headed preservation reads as if the locomotive went directly from Woodhams to NRM Shildon and was then based there for a long time. Was this the case? I think not. The only source I can easily find says it went to Procor in Wakefield then Carnforth. Skinner doc (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:30, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Falsche Übersetzung[edit]

Hallo, bei mir wird übersetzt das die "1937" im April "5972" gebaut wurde, kann man das irgendwie beheben sodass dann dort steht ''die 5972 wurde im April 1937 gebaut'' ??? Tom Stopp (talk) 13:03, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but my German doesn't extend that far. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:29, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
