Where was he born?[edit]

I did find this [3] where Edmondson himself supplies the claim of the exact village he was born in in Mexico. Althogh his main point seemed to be to show off his literary ability by making very obscure references instead of just listing the actual names of people. I am still trying to digest how to incorporate it in the article in a way that does not just give people headaches. - His granddaughter who was just born when Edmondson wrote the included response, was named Deborah. He was being ironic about the name being original. I suspected as much, but considering the era this was about the most common name.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:12, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  - There may need to be more credulity to some of the information being fed out here than past writers have applied. This source also claims that Edmondson "shod Poncho Villa's horse". I find this very hard to believe since Villa died in 1923, and Edmondson was born in 1922. Most likely it was a horse that had once years before belonged to Pocho Villa, or Edmonson is just using his skills as a creative writer to invent background infromation on himself, and those hoddling together a biographical encyclopedia on Science Fiction writers are focused so much on the works that they do not stop to even try to determine if the biographical details made sense. [4] Science Fiction and Fantasy Literature Vol. 2 gives us some more details that suggest that we need to be careful taking Edmonson's claims about himself at face value. His parents were William J. Edmonson and Edith Cotton. He may have been born in Mexico, but this is starting to suggest to me that if he was, he might well have been an American expatriate in Mexico and not in fact a Mexican national in any way. It also makes me wonder if his claimed full name is actual real, or part of a general pattern of creativity with names.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:15, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- This source looks to bascially be another source with a similar writer to the one above. Altough they are showing a little more skepticism about the medical degree obtained in Austria. At least they do not repeat the claim about shodding Poncho Villa's shorse, but there is a part about being "addicted to eating, drking and breathing".John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:23, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  - Actually, I spoke too soon. They do have the claim that he shod Poncho Villa's horse. Edmondson was 9 months old when Poncho Villa died. This is at best a creative misapplyingof the term "Ponch Villa's horse" when it should at best be called "a horse once owned by Poncho Villa", and in all likelihood an outright lie, that should be taken with as much seriousness as one would take claims of being addicted to breathing and still trying to catch up on breathing lost while a resident of Los Angeles. I am also beginning to suspect that the claimed full name of Edmonson is an invention that would not be reflected if we could hunt down his birth certificate.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:29, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    - I know we are not to do original research, and there are lots of reasons this may not be a lead. However the clearly misleading if not outright claim that Edmondson "shod Poncho Villa's horse" has my malarchy meter sky high. So does the fact that some sources suggest that Yaqui culture is connected to his early origins, but the village where he was born in about as far from Yaqui country as one can get an be in Mexico. Plus we lack an article on the village where he was allegedly born, which is not much outside the US, but he added on a name in his own report which seems to connect it to Villahermosa, the capital of the state, which as he is spouting about a natal village makes me suspect he is not being truthful. The claim that Edmondson is Mexican born is much repeated, but am not seeing anyone who has well sourced in, and since he also claims to have "shod" the horse of someone who died only 9 months after his birth, I am not convinced that he is actually a reliable source on his location of birth.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:03, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
