Video controversy[edit]

I am proposing the following edit, to be appended to the mention of Mourou's amateur video making, which caused quite a stir after his Nobel prize was announced. The edit is cited with well-known press sources, plus a link to Mourou's apology. What are the concerns that led to this being reverted? 2603:3015:1B08:0:71EE:4758:8E8C:25E4 (talk) 15:43, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In the 2000s, he tried his hand in amateur filmaking, starring in a publicity video for the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI).[1] This video received a significant amount of negative attention after the announcement of Mourou's Nobel Prize because the video portrays women partially undressing while promoting a European science initiative (ELI).[2][3] In response to the controversy, Mourou issued a public apology for the video, stating that he was "sincerely and profoundly sorry for the image conveyed".[4]
Per WP:BALASP, your extended account of this minor controversy exaggerates its role in the life and career of Mourou. The article already mentions and links to the video. It was created not by Mourou but by a French film company, as humorous illustration of a song about ELI written for another project.[1] WP:BLP also would prevent such POV and misleading wording as "significant amount of negative attention" and "the video portrays women partially undressing." Nuclear waste transmutation[edit]

Several sources [2] [3] quote him as proposing what appears to be some sort of photodisintegration based nuclear transmutation of nuclear waste. Now, even if this is utter bunkum (which I don't think it is), it is still imho notable, because a Nobel laureate in a related field is proposing it. Whether or not it is actually economical to do this is of course a different question... Hobbitschuster (talk) 15:14, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
