Mesoeucrocodylia[edit]

Mesoeucrocodylia is defined as "the most inclusive clade containing Crocodylus niloticus (Laurenti 1768) but not Protosuchus richardsoni (Brown 1933)" (stem, Sereno 2001) and since he didn't redefined it I think that it is a mistake in the article... Maybe I'm wrong, but it should be Metasuchia instead. Rnnsh (talk) 20:33, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sereno's definition isn't the only definition. Mesoeucrocodylia is most commonly used for all crocodyliforms except protosuchians, and definitions can vary. Sometimes it's used as a node-based clade, such as Ortega et al. (2000) which defines it as "Ziphosuchia + Araripesuchus + Neosuchia". Clark must be using it as a node to keep protosuchians out of it. Smokeybjb (talk) 21:03, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
