Merging?[edit]

Yes, for the time being it may not be a bad idea to merge the articles Freshwater bivalves and Freshwater mussel, because both of them are currently very short. However, eventually I think it would probably be good to have two separate articles, because freshwater mussels are a subset of freshwater bivalves. Clams vs. mussels[edit]

There is no distinction made on this page about why a clam is different than a mussel, how the evolutionary lineages are different, or why this matters. Many workers in this field use mussel and clam interchangeably. I would suggest either removing this line (because it is confusing) or explicitly adding why the terms mussel and clam refer to different organisms in a biological sense. 134.129.143.176 (talk) 19:13, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The first and third external sources work when selected, however it appears that the second source is no longer available. There are also no direct references or in text citations listed within the article. Adding more sources/citations would greatly improve the articles' reliability. Article Overall Status[edit]

I would consider this article in the infancy of its development. The lead in to the article is lacking in both substance and breadth, briefly mentioning habitat and a handful of constituent species, and no emphasis on common characteristics, morphology, distribution, etc. With the addition of more sources, we should be able to add a substantial amount of information to this scant article. Ecology[edit]

The ecology of freshwater bivalves is lacking in this article. Modes of reproduction, feeding behaviors, distribution, species interactions, life histories, etc. are absent. Providing more information on the ecology of freshwater bivalves will fill in a lot of the missing information gaps. There is not a whole lot of information on how many species of freshwater bivalves have been discovered or how many species are threatened or endangered. By adding more information on the ecology of freshwater bivalves, the article will begin to portray what these types of organisms really are. Hcoles1 (talk) 16:41, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
