Quality[edit]

This section doesn't seem to be right. TVNZ are still broadcasting in SDTV, but TVWorks (TV3 & C4) are now broadcasting in 16x9 widescreen. And 576 is a standard format and not widescreen. Doublearon1 20:28, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Future Content[edit]

Under this section there is a statement that the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) "believes" that MediaWorks will screen imported programmes. Obviously the person that wrote this doesn't live in New Zealand, the BSA is only there to field complaints from viewers/listeners, not make comments on the industry.Trumpy (talk) 11:19, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Most name branded internet connected devices support RTMP, MHEG-5 apps just simply pass a URL to the device's built-in cut-down browser which load a cut-down Flash plugin for loading the videos. Samsung store apps for TVNZ and TV3 on-demand are implemented in a similar way, except with native code and not MHEG-5.helmboy 10:47, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

MHEG-IC supports MPEG-TS only, not proprietary protocols such as RTMP. MHEG-5 aka D-Book 6.2 adopted by Freeview NZ requires videos to be encoded according to TS 101 154 specification. If videos are encoded with RTMP format then MHEG5 engine will simply stop playback due to buffer overflow or underflow. The encryption algorithm adopted by MHEG-5 is not supported by any other internet streaming protocol (AES CBC mode with termination mode described in ANSI/SCTE 52 2003). Samsung Smart TV apps of TVNZ and Mediaworks have DRM features implemented (PlayReady or Widevine) but MHEG-IC does not support any DRM technology. Why don't you read what I wrote!!! The MHEG-5 app is just a simple hack that passes a URL to the device's cut-down web browser which most brand name devices include with a Adobe Flash plugin. MHEG-5 like OpenTV are just a way of creating a custom UI delivered over a broadcast link. TVNZ and TV3 only use RTMP on their sites and in their apps, they do not use MS Sliverlight or Apple's HLS.
You need to read "ETSI ES 202 184". MHEG-5 IC does NOT support RTMP or Adaptive streaming. WorldnetTV uses MPEG-TS for its live streams, not RTMP. TVNZ and Mediaworks do not have any MHEG-5 app. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dankunwizard (talk • contribs) 23:45, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
MPEG TS is used when you want to include the broadcast video within the app UI such as with the MHEG guide app. MHEG-5 does not support any streaming itself. It is just a layout engine for implementing text and graphical UI controls. WorldnetTV only streams from it's auckland servers and there are only RTMP and HLS streams. The HLS streams do used fragmented MPEG TS. RTMP is the most supported on connected TVs and set-top boxes by way of the WebKit browser most use. MHEG-5 contains various standards, not only UI/UX. More substantially it does not support RTMP. See the ETSI document referenced above. Further, wireshark capture shows that WorldnetTV MHEG-5 IC app uses UNSEGMENTED MPEG-TS stream. TVNZ and Mediaworks running Wowza servers from Auckland only but according to Wowza, MHEG-5/D-Book isn't supported.Dankunwizard (talk) 01:02, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In regards to ETSI ES 202 184, the section that states MPEG TS is for non-linear clips that can be added to the DSM CC stream or loaded through an URL trigger, NOT linear live broadcast. Your device must be pulling down the HLS streams. Other connected TVs would pull down the RTMP streams. And looking at the MHEG-5 app contents it is just a hacked together stub for loading the device's web browser. As for TVNZ they stream through brightcove akamai RTMP servers and TV3 stream through their own Adobe flash server.
