Name: German?[edit]

Since when are names in any way translated? Friedrich is the name, Frederick is a different name. For instance, George would "translate" to Georg in German. I don't see the article about the former US president on German Wikipedia titled "Georg W. Bush" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.228.177.101 (talk) 12:21, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gee, you wrote that without stopping to think for half a second, didn't you? Lucky you didn't put your name to it! The Germans actually translate names frequently. There's Ludwig XIV (französisch Louis XIV), Raffael (Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino), Thomas Morus (englisch Thomas More), and yes, lots and lots of others. And so what?METRANGOLO1 (talk) 17:11, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mother[edit]

Who was his mother? Kevs 01:44, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Louise Henriette of Nassau, apparently. Charles 01:54, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When was his reign? 1701-?

Wronge title[edit]

Why is the article titled incorrectly "Frederick I of Prussia"? He was only King in Prussia. Str1977 (smile back) 11:52, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's right. Furthermore, I think the following statements are wrong: Frederick crowned himself "King Frederick I in Prussia" on January 18, 1701 in Königsberg. To indicate that Frederick's royalty was limited to Prussia and did not reduce the rights of the Emperor in Frederick's Imperial territories, he had to call himself "King in Prussia", instead of "King of Prussia". He wasn't King of Prussia because only one half of Prussia was in his posession, and the other half was owned by the King of Poland, who styled himself "King of Prussia". Another "King of Prussia" would have caused trouble with the Polish King. I don't think that the Emperor or Empire had anything to do with that. Prussia (i. e. the historical Batlci region Prussia, not what later became called Prussia but is essentially Brandenburg and most of Northern Germany) was never part of the Empire. --89.244.179.76 (talk) 21:53, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know about the Polish King, but Frederick was never "King of Prussia" as noted, due to the issues with the Holy Roman Empire. I don't know how to change the name of an article but this really needs to be done.Another-sailor (talk) 09:16, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
