Interesting...[edit]

I never heard of Fred Rose before but I stumbled upon it when I clicked on Random Article. This musician is cool! —Preceding unsigned comment added by DoirB (talkcontribs) 22:58, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Year of birth[edit]

I corrected year of birth to 1897, as this is the inscription on his grave (see link to findagrave.com). I mentioned in the edit summary that countrymusichalloffame.org doesn't support the 1898 claim, but I was wrong. I have emailed them about it. Hoverfish Talk 14:12, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have received an answer by historian John Rumble who has done research on Fred Rose, stating that "even during his lifetime, there was some uncertainty about which year he was born", and that "all accounts of his life were based on a brief biographical sketch done by two of his friends, who were in the advertising business". The year 1898 was determined by "the manuscript U.S. census for 1900, and from the ages of persons in his parents’ household". As a result, I include both referenced dates in the article.
