Stand Alone

I just looked at Wikipedia:Lists (stand-alone lists) trying to figure out if this article is a candidate for deletion (I came to no strong conclusion, but that is because I am not familiar enough with wikipedia list issues). I did glean from that reading, however, that:

To keep the system of lists useful, we must limit the number of lists...Lists that are too general or too broad in scope have little value, unless they are split into categories...Lists that are too specific are also a problem. The "list of one-eyed horse thieves from Montana" will be of little interest to anyone (except the person making the list).

I think this list may be too specific. It can never be anything more than it is: ten wiki links, by virtue of being limited to top ten in 2006. I suggest, therefore, that if this article is to remain, maybe it should be a list of billionaires by year—not just 2006, or at the very least not restricted to 10. --Fuhghettaboutit 07:20, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

I think this list is useful. It's a great summary for many, of peoples wealth. I'd like to see it expanded from the current top 50 list to encompass the whole Forbes billionaires list. -skyskraper nb: excuse my coding, i'm only new to wikipedia protocols

Mittal

This page states Laxmi Mittal Wealth is 23.5 billion while the Mittal page claims it is 27.7

I've looked at the Times Rich List and it is around 14 Billion Pounds which I guess would rougly equate to 27.7 Billion USD. So I'm changing that.--Milki 18:59, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Alicia Miguel

I just speedied an A7 biography of this woman which claimed no notability. I checked what Links Here which listed her as a billionaire. I have been able to find no verifiable evidence that she is a billionaire see [1]. The Forbes link of the 25 richest people seems to be different than this list. On what basis, is it compiled? Capitalistroadster 01:54, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Never mind. It seems to have been vandalism. I have restored the previous version. Capitalistroadster 01:56, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

The richest heads of states should be added to this page.

There should just be one page listing all the world's billionaires regardless of whether they are heads of state or not. I know Forbes often includes heads of state in their rich list, but keeps them in a seperate section.

Vandalism?

I'm no specialist, but Gandalf is listed in the billionaire's list. There are several weird names, but I don't know enough to fix it.

Donald Trump

Since when does Donald Trump have a net worth if 52 billion? Last I checked it was around 3 billion. Zeus982 01:22, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Raymond, Thomas & Walter Kwok ($11.6 billion)

Why are these listed as one person? --Liface 18:31, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Kenneth Thompson

Kenneth Thompson WAS the 9th richest man in the world. He's dead now, so that title now passes to whoever it is that was in position #10 at the time of his death, unless there was one sole inheritor of Thompson's estate, in which case that inheritor will replace Thompson as #9. It is not accurate to continue listing a dead man as the 9th richest living person in the world. My apologies and condolences to any and all family members and/or friends who are mourning the loss of Mr. Thompson. The sole reason for my removing him from the list was to maintain encyclopedic accuracy, and not to offend or demean the name of Mr. Kenneth Thompson. Wandering Star 03:52, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Right you are -- but his name was Kenneth Thomson wihtout a 'p'. Joriki 20:12, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Al Rajhi, #37, #84, #175

The prepositions, "bin" or "ibn" are rarely used in the written form, and when they are, it is usually by members of Saudi Arabia's ruling family. The three names listed are brothers whose name should be stated as

  1. 37 Sulaiman Abdul Aziz Al Rajhi
  2. 84 Saleh Abdul Aziz Al Rajhi
  3. 175 Abdullah Abdul Aziz Al Rajhi

Rich List

Nicky Oppenheimer is from SOUTH AFRICA not GERMANY. His great-grandfather may have come from Germany but that was well over 100 years ago. VP

Mass deletion?

What is the reasoning behind this edit? Why cut out the list of top 50 to re-list the same 10 with pics plus three more? I think a revert is in order, but will wait for consensus. Harro5 09:41, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

An edit such as that one, which eviscerates much of the information in an article, should be discussed before being made even if, as here, it was obviously made in good faith. For that reason, I don't think consensus is needed to even be polite before reverting. However, multiple changes have been made since then, so a simple revert would be problematic without a careful review of those changes. In any case, for purposes of consensus, if it's necessary, I agree.--Fuhghettaboutit 10:00, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
No changes have been made outside of the list. Harro5 10:04, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Well not much has changed, I see only three minor changes: 1) 2006 was un-wikilinked in the intro; 2) "Prince Alwaleed"--->"Al-Waleed"; and 3) in the information for Lakshmi Mittal, "India,UK"--->"India" (with an edit summary that he does not have dual citizenship with the UK).--Fuhghettaboutit 11:08, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Updates?

What standard for refrencing has been or is agreeed upon for this list? I am just asking because according to this link and this link the waltons are all up to 20 billion and change each and should be filling the 4th through 8th spots. Dalf | Talk 06:34, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

To rephrase slightly, this link still shows the list we have here, but the other links (all of which are to forbes.com) seem to have a version that is updated for things like stock price changes. Seeing as this is wikipedia I think we could probbly keep an updated version as well. The only problem is that I cant seem to find an updated version past the top ten. Dalf | Talk 06:39, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

This page should include the entire Forbes 400 list Ashwin Narasimhan 13:05, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Copyvio

This list is quite likely a copyvio. Tempshill 19:09, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

How so? It's a list of facts. Can you copyright a list of facts? Even if you can, it's been greatly reorganized and the presentation has been completely altered. I doubt a mere list of facts that have been reorganized and represented constitutes a copyvio. Though, ianal. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 21:01, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Nationality

Somebody please state the nationality of each person —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 58.186.86.143 (talkcontribs) .

Why? Clicking on a link will give the billionaire's nationality and current residences. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 14:32, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

yeah but that takes time, I just want to know the nationality immediately without having to click on the names.

Hi, Can I state that Lim Goh Tong is a Malaysian Nationality? Thanks, Anon118

Why just 200?

Why are there just 200 people in the list? Aren't there 400 or more on the Forbes list?

Confusion over Mittal citizenship

Has Mittal citizenship of India? i have confusion over this.

Number 1 on the list?

Who are Jayesh Varsani and Rahul Dhanak, listed at the top of the list? I think those are fake, and should be removed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 131.215.9.183 (talk) 00:20, 6 December 2006 (UTC).

Raj Dhanak?

Does anyone know who Raj Dhanak is? I believe this may be a prank, due to the fact that on Forbes Bill Gates is the richest. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jozzo6 (talkcontribs) 16:40, 6 December 2006 (UTC).

Forbes Info

Does anyone know why the numbers for wealth listed on this page are not the same as those listed in the actual Forbes article? In the Forbes article, Bill Gates is listed as having $50 billion, but here he has $53 billion. I am assuming that our info is probably more correct, but then shouldn't we remove all the statements saying that the info comes from Forbes? Kaoruchan42 16:12, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Well, that's up for discussion. Is this article designed to be the list of billionaires for 2006 as of January 1st? If so, then updating the list would be incorrect. If not, then all updates should require a source other than Forbes. Most people who made changes in the past (updating Gates from $50b to $53b[citation needed] and updating Buffett from $42b to $46b[citation needed]) were done without providing newer sources. I'm not sure what we should do. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 16:32, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
fixed it. --Foundby 23:09, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Since there seems to be a large amount of contention as to who ranks where nationally, perhaps the title of the page should reflect this was compiled by Forbes - and not just some haphazard list of billionaires. It is specifically marketed and advertised by Forbes and it is the most comprehensive list there is...so why not give credit where credit is due?Reavolution 04:01, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure: but since the Forbes article is copyrighted, we can't just have a verbatim copy of the content, right? We need to be a conglomerate of multiple sources. However, every deviation from the Forbes source MUST have a cited source of its own (feel free to revert unreferenced changes). In other words, I don't think we should put Forbes in the title. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 00:36, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

What do you think of making it in a table format?

What do you think of making it in a table format? For example Name, Net Worth, Country, & Corporation in seperate columns?--Foundby 23:11, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, we had that before. For an example, look at a June 2006 version of this page: here. Scroll down past the pictures and you'll see a bunch of columns. The editors didn't like that table because only the top 13 billionaires were listed on those versions of the page. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 23:25, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Do you know if a bot could do this for us now that we 275 people, with countries & corporations, it will take hours for a human editor to make a wikitable for that.--Foundby 05:48, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
It would not be very hard for me to gen up a wikitable for the 275 people (with mostly empty cells for the fields other than "name"). Can we agree on what columns we would want? ~a (usertalkcontribs) 18:42, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I was hoping for the colums: Name, Net Worth, Country, & Corporation.--Foundby 10:26, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Something like this? ~a (usertalkcontribs) 15:00, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Thats perfect, thank you very much Arichnad, I took the liberty of updating the page whilst giving you credits in edit summary. --Foundby 22:50, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Glad I could help. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 06:04, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Nicky Oppenheimer & family is South African and NOT German!

Nicky Oppenheimer stays in South Africa and the family has a long history (incl. his father Harry). Easy to verify (Forbes lists this correctly) as well as the links from Nicky on Wikipedia too.

-Shawn. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.173.178.249 (talk) 17:54, 29 January 2007 (UTC).

Hello Shawn. Yes, Oppenheimer was born in South Africa. I fixed the page. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 18:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Luis Carlos Sarmiento

He's got no Country of origin... He is from Colombia South America. Thank you.

Fixed. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 08:16, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

2007

How about a new list for 2007? Secondly, can we create it so the wealth Ranking is Automatic instead of us having to type in the numbers all over again? eg, Mukesh Ambani in the Forbes India 40 is worth more than Mukesh Ambani in Forbes World's richest because their India 40 list came out after their World list, and during that time, his fortune obviously grew. Updating the list would mean, having to type in all those ranking numbers again. Isn't there a way we could do it automatically?

Does Forbes have a 2007 list? ~a (usertalkcontribs) 02:41, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Well they did publish Oceania's richest 40 on the 1st of Feburary. [2] We cant really put that info in the 2006 list can we? So I definetly think that we need to start a 2007 list and update it as more and more lists come out. For now, we can fill the 2007 list with the latest figures that we DO have and then update it as more and more region-based lists emerge. Tri400 11:34, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Carlos Slim Helu

Why is his nationality listed as Mexican and Lebanese? His father was born in Lebanon, but he left the country 38 years before Slim's birth. Slim was born in Mexico and has lived there all his life. MK2 02:46, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

i agree...it keeps getting changed. --emerson7 | Talk 03:43, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

can we settle the ongoing dispute over Carlos Slim Helú? he was born in mexico, he lives in mexico, he carries a passporte from mexico, and he derives his wealth from mexico. that he visits grandma in beirut twice out of the year does not make him lebanese. can we pleeeeze stop this nonsense!!? --emerson7 | Talk 05:33, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Zhang Yin

Why there is not Zhang Yin, wealthiest self-made woman in the world ahead of Oprah Winfrey, J.K. Rowling, Giuliana Benetton and Rosalia Mera? 58.187.79.137 23:43, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

This is 2006 list. --Jklamo 03:19, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
