Nonexistent (or misnamed) Shelly Manne album[edit]

As Cosprings knows from our past discussions (and I see that both Cosprings and DISEman have made major contributions here), I have a special interest in Shelly Manne. (OK, I confess—I'm a Shelly Manne fanatic :-) So I was interested to see that this Flying Dutchman discography includes a recording, Flying Dutchman 10150, artist "Shelly Manne & Co.", album "Contact CM-4". I own literally hundreds of recordings where Manne appears, but I never heard of this one. Now, I would never claim to have them all, as Manne appeared on many hundreds of others. But I never even heard of the name of this one. So I did some searching, and now I have reason to believe that this entry is a mistake. I found the same mistake on another Web site with a Flying Dutchman discography [1], and I'm thinking that you might have drawn upon the information shown there. Now, I do own a reissue on the Doctor Jazz label (FW28728) by "Shelly Manne and his friends" and with no wording that is clearly an album title. But the jacket does indicate that this is a reissue of Flying Dutchman FD10150. Furthermore, you might to have a look at this Web page at JazzRecordScene.com where they show a picture of the album cover. There, it looks like this is another album with no title. And "Contact" is the name of the record label! CM-4 is simply the album's catalog number. So I do not think that there is really a Shelly Manne album named "Contact CM-4". There must have been a now forgotten tiny record label "Contact", and for all I know they only issued four LPs! I don't know how many other problems of this kind there might be on this page, but I thought I might at least mention the one problem that I have good reason to believe does exist. Both of you, keep up the great work you're doing with Wikipedia discographies! --Alan W (talk) 00:48, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Label distribution[edit]

On several album covers (notably Steve Allen "Soulful Brass #2", Flying Dutchman #FDS-101, 1969), there was this credit: "A PRODUCT OF FLYING DUTCHMAN PRODUCTIONS, LTD. PRINTED IN U.S.A. DISTRIBUTED IN THE UNITED STATES EXCLUSIVELY BY MAINSTREAM RECORDS, INC."

No mention has been made of Mainstream's involvement.
