No mention of Chinese fishing practices?[edit]

Very surprised to see no mention of Chinese fishing fleets highly illegal behaviour across the world, their sometimes violent interactions with sovereign fleets of other nations, nor their over fishing, nor suspected use of slavery. Are these detailed in a different article or should they be added here? 78.149.209.252 (talk) 13:59, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is known generally as Illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, or IUU fishing. As you see, Wikipedia has an article on this. Bad as the problems are now, they were worse in the mid 1990s. But significant problems are still occurring with many countries – not just China. There are issues with Russia, Spain and with developing countries generally, particularly around Africa. See this global review and Illegal fishing in Thailand. Japan is a problem when it comes to catching blue tuna and whales.
If you want you could add stuff about China here. Or perhaps a "By country" section could be added to the general IUU fishing article, or the section could be spun off to its own article. But there needs to be a sense of proportion. China is not so terrible when the issues are viewed in proportion to the size of their population. A fairer measure of how "bad" a country is might be something like the estimated weight of IUU fish per head of population – if enough were known (and it isn't) to calculate that figure. --Epipelagic (talk) 15:42, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Dark fleet" redirect incorrect[edit]

"Dark fleet" redirects here, but this isn't the only fleet termed as a dark fleet. Please see ghost fleet note in this Reserve fleet article. Smyrno347 (talk) 00:21, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
