Healing Catholic Priest and the Mega-Shrine, Philippines[edit]

I created this article/bio of Fr. Fernando Suarez, in view of the many healing miracles he allegedly made. I hope that many users will expand this IN TIME, and researchers / experts on this field will benefit from this landmark edit, since he is very NOTABLE or noted.

--Florentino floro (talk) 07:31, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

Currently Suarez' notability is still somewhat tenuous - his claims are definitely notable, but they need to be better sourced, ideally to non-tabloid publications. The Manila Standard is a good start, but he's only mentioned once so it's not extensive coverage. I'm sure he's notable, but it needs more. WLU (talk) 21:09, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, my legal prayers were heard. You know, this Fr. Suarez is media shy and does not want publicity. So media was so cooperative. NOW, I submit best WikiPedia verifiable sources to prove the article's points: a)our top Philippine Daily Inquirer (note Manila Standard is good but it never got even 3rd place, vide the 2nd Manila Bulletin and 3rd is Philippine Star) front-paged today January 6, Sunday, Fr. Suarez'Inquirer.net, Stage set for RP as global healing center; it was so OBJECTIVE, neutral and even did not stress the miracles he made, it just published the BIG EVENT on January 11-13 and expunged his millions of miracles, as a top paper; b) our top GMA Network published on video - clear and indubitable evidence of successful healing by Fr. Suarez. <redacted by WLU (talk)>. But for sure, on the department of healing, he is notable, first and foremost, and since, unlike those tele evangelists you can read in WikiPedia healing category, you and I cannot find CONTROVERSIES on him. There is none, since the videos (before they are not verifiable; but this video published by GMA Network, I respectfully submit is VERIFIABLE due to its being our top TV station.

Look, after 3000 edits, you should know how to space talk pages comments. Don't overlap right next mine. Read WP:TALK - I should not be continuously having to fix basic mistakes on talk and mainspace pages. It's not hard. And don't use talk pages to spam yourself. I've redacted the links and self-promoting spam you provided (and you can spam more than just links - this page is about Suarez, not F. Floro, so there's no reason to provide external links to your own name) as irrelevant to the page.
The Inquirer.net article is not objective, it's so incredibly sympathetic, it will have to be used very carefully. There's no skepticism, it's acting as a mouthpiece for Suarez. The video makes a good external link since it shows Suarez and currently the page lacks a picture. Unfortunately it's in Filipino, so I don't know what's actually being said. WLU (talk) 15:32, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ELinks shouldn't be news stories[edit]

Per WP:EL - external links are for links that can't be added to the page as a reference - home pages, videos, things like that. News stories should be included as inline citations, not external links. In particular, this link has only a very short section on Suarez, it's good for what's included in that section, but being in philippino, obviously it'd need to be added by someone who reads the language. WLU (talk) 18:53, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh,thank. I stand corrected. Just that, at that time, I was still waiting for the proper verifiable GMA Network verifiable link and now it is here as I discussed above: please view them and even if as judge and lawyer I am skeptic, Fr. Suarez MADE the lame walk and that video is admissible even in international inquiries like USA Senate for it is by our top GMA Network. --Florentino floro (talk) 06:16, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: sorry, I forgot the verifiable link:here: GMA NEWS.TV.video, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho: Healing Priest, 01/05/2008 --Florentino floro (talk) 06:18, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All the external links to news footage have been collapsed into a single link to a search page of the station. Linking to every single news story about Suarez is not a good policy (Wikipedia is not mirror of media files). Please don't add further links to the EL section - if a news story is particularly interesting or informative, add it as an inline citation. WLU (talk) 14:05, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable inter-wikis[edit]

The inter-wikis of the German, Danish, and other foreign language versions are NOT about the subject. I have removed them. Starczamora (talk) 03:36, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

May healing[edit]

I added this, since, even if on its face this is not a major Suarez report, still, because of MOBBING and sensationalized healing ministry here, this is NOTABLE. Why? Suarez catapulted to a higher throne than Fr. Corsie Legaspi. Mobs, throngs, and even millions went to him, like Jesus. So this GMA news is the only NOTICE around the world, which is as must for all FILIPINOS who are so sick and have no hope. Please do not delete this MAY HEALING return. Suarez, 40, announced his return to and resumption of healing in the Philippines on May, 2008.GMA NEWS.TV, ‘Healing’ priest returning to RP this month --Florentino floro (talk) 08:00, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added this since Canada.com reported the testimony of his superior: Suarez' superior at the Companions, Rev. Scott McCaig, believed in the healer's gift since many people truly got better. Fr. Scott testified: "all healing should be approached with some skepticism, but there's a place between total susceptibility and total rejection; I knew people, close friends, who went very skeptical, and who experienced profound moments of grace."canada.com/montrealgazette, A gift for healing --Florentino floro (talk) 10:40, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Facts:

Like so many priest doing healing service they are always attacked. Fr Fernando was just in Hawaii for healing services. Not once did he ever "claim" a healing. The credit always went to Jesus. NEVER. EVER. Did he claim a healing. Lets get the facts straight. To many lies posted here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abalogh (talkcontribs) 06:49, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV[edit]

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:55, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Heads up (recent edits due to Suarez' death)[edit]

This is a heads up that this page is being heavily edited because of Suarez' recent death. Be aware that some of the recent edits are heavily POV. I'll try my best to clean up this article, but feel free to help. Thanks! --- Tito Pao (talk) 01:20, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

an Fyi for you Tito. The page was in very bad shape and embarrassing for a Wikipedia article and I came in to clean it up and to make it better. I used a variety of news sources to bring this information together. If you have a problem with it. Please bring it here. I spent most of my day on it. Red Rose 13 (talk) 02:17, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer to have the discussion here. I am not a member of his church and I edit on more than 30 pages of spiritually oriented people. I believe the edits we are discussing are not promotional at all just facts that were taken from reference article. The page needs to have insight into the person. I will be adding back in - Suarez said that Pope Francis is human, yet he is a man of God. and and the Pope told him to continue his mission. These two statements are exactly what happened when he the pope met. They are not made up phrases to promote suarez. Red Rose 13 (talk) 07:40, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed on my talk page that someone hid some edits that were copied from another website but I am unable to see those edits. How does an editor see what was removed?Red Rose 13 (talk) 15:40, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How to place cause of death in template[edit]

  • one editor took out the cause of death with a reliable newspaper reference giving template documentation but she gave no link for that subject. I have researched all over and cannot find anything.
    • Can anyone help with this? I found a couple of newspaper articles writing cause of death and used one on this template - the same one on the article itself.Thank youRed Rose 13 (talk) 19:53, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • the link was in plain sight so I will put it back in.Red Rose 13 (talk) 17:24, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
        • Hi Red Rose 13, the template documentation is at Template:Infobox person/doc (the parent template for the one used in this article). As indicated there, this parameter should be included only when significant to notability and omitted when from routine causes. Nikkimaria (talk) 23:37, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
          • Hello I followed your link and this is what I found next cause of death - Cause of death. Should be clearly defined and sourced, and should only be included when the cause of death has significance for the subject's notability, e.g. James Dean, John Lennon. It should not be filled in for unremarkable deaths such as those from old age or routine illness, e.g. Bruce Forsyth, Eduard Khil. Father Fernando was notable and important to thousands of people and secondly, the sudden death from a heart attack is a remarkable and unexpected death. Sudden death of a person in their 40's is not a routine illness or from old age. So I am going to add it back unless you can give me a valid reason otherwise. Red Rose 13 (talk) 00:40, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
            • The question is not whether the person is notable - after all, if he were not he would not have an article at all - but rather whether the cause of death is significant to his notability. For example, one of the most significant parts of James Dean's biography, something that comes to mind first for many when they think of him, is his death in a car crash. In this case what is most significant about Father Fernando is what he did in life, not the specific cause of his death. Unfortunately, heart disease is the most common cause of death for men of this age - pretty much the definition of a routine cause of death. Nikkimaria (talk) 00:50, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
