Please avoid edit war until confirmation[edit]

Folks, let's not keep going back and forth on whether he is dead or alive until results are confirmed. Latest reports say they are pending DNA testing. --Petercorless 22:37, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Who said that it's pending DNA testing? 1130130 23:33, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Associated Press --Petercorless 00:41, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I see. But I don't believe anyone has said directly that all that is needed to confirm Fazul's death is a DNA test. We're assuming they have something to test it against?1130130 00:58, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
FBI/DIA got samples of Fazul's DNA in Comoros, where he used to live. LDH 12:16, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added this DNA bit. LDH 02:24, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aliases useful?[edit]

Keep - I know I have found it useful to have the aliases and alternate spellings of various people doing research on Somalia and al Qaeda. There are many false names and also many alternates. --Petercorless 00:41, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Delete - As long as there's a way to know right away that he's known by a lot of aliases and there is a current link to them close by the long list seems a little much for the page. And now it's weird to have that bit in the body about his aliases and then the list later anyways. Not really a big deal though.1130130 01:23, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Keep per above. Mgiganteus1 18:00, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth[edit]

According to the intro, Fazul Abdullah Mohammed was "born either August 25, 1972; December 25, 1974; or February 25, 1974". I don't know why this was done, but wouldn't it be better to put the dates in chronological order? ("August 25, 1972; February 25, 1974; or December 25, 1974") Aecis No running, shouting or piddling in the shallow end 22:05, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, change it.1130130 02:50, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Role in al Qaeda?[edit]

I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with leaving the large part of the information pertaining to Fazul under the heading "Role in Al Qaeda". I think it's difficult to make the assertion that all the listed activities pertain directly to al Qaeda, especially the information on his time in Somalia. Al Qaeda's influence in the area and the recent conflict is far from clear. So I was going to at the very least create a separate heading for his Somalia information if there are none opposed to this idea. 1130130 22:34, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The text indicates authorities who claimed that he was part of Al Qaeda committing these acts. Rather than just your gut feeling, can you make any citable assertions he was not part of of Al Qaeda? If you cannot find proof, then it would be improper to change the subtitle. However, on the grounds of "innocent before proven guilty," you could prudently change it to "Alleged." However, again, cite sources. --Petercorless 22:41, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup copyvio[edit]

Just to say that I did a total copyedit on this section as it was a bit garbled, halfway through there were some non-phrases and bits. and bobs. towards the end!

Oh and all the refs were stacked at the end, making it to difficult to work out what reffed what.

So as I waded in to tidy it up, I read the sources and whole paragraphs had been lifted wholesale from the articles. So I have tried to rewrite it, keeping the essential, but shuffling the text around so it is not a direct lift from the sources, also separating into three paras, with a different ref for each section. Good job. We need to clone you and turn you loose on about half a million other Wiki articles that are in the same, sad shape. HammerFilmFan (talk) 03:50, 13 June 2011 (UTC) HammerFilmFan[reply]
Thanks, made me laugh, just randomly arrived here, sadly a lot of wiki activity seems to be spent going round in circles, tagging things instead of fixing them and so on. Glad you appreciated the edits. CaptainScreebo Parley! 09:30, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Memoir[edit]

According to Nelly Lahoud, Beware of Imitators, Mohammed wrote a memoir (2vv) which she discusses in detail. I haven't checked to see whether the memoir is easily available on-line, but her report on al-Q'aida and its imitators draws heavily on the memoir, and many of the things listed in this article as unconfirmed, are in fact confirmed by the memoir, and by what Lahoud calls Abottabad documents recovered after the assassination of Bin Laden. I would strongly urge contributors to this article to read the report, and suggest that the reason it may not have come to contributors' attention is that Lahoud uses his nom de guerre, Fadil Harun, throughout, rather than his birth name. It might also be worthwhile to add his trade name to the introduction to the article.Theonemacduff (talk) 20:39, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I read one of the comments about editing rather than tagging, and have added in the trade name, Fadil Harun, to the opening sentence. Theonemacduff (talk) 20:45, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
