Notability[edit]

I just want to let other contribs who keep nominating this article for deletion that when I was training as a manager for an unrelated fast food chain, this company was used as a case study for how not to run a business. Marriott took a highly successful company and basically destroyed it. --Jeremy (blah blah • I did it!) 18:34, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Marriott did the same with Roy Rogers restaurants. I believe it's safe from deletion, although there's an inherent bias here against notable, but defunct pre-Internet organizations, as there's necessarily not very much available about them on the web. Seems to me like this article could use an overhaul. Farrell's is expanding again, which is welcome to those of us who grew up in northern Virginia and spent many an hour in the Tyson's Corner Farrell's back in the late 70's. 173.72.199.100 (talk) 17:53, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"The Pig Trough?"[edit]

I may be mis-remembering the name … but another Farrell's original menu item , was "The Pig Trough". It was either a double banana split , or six scoops of ice cream , served in a huge bowl , encased in a wooden "pig trough". If you finished it , you received an over sized badge reading , "I Made A Pig Of Myself At Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour!". The sundae was originally called "The Trough" - six scoops of ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry), three toppings (strawberry, pineapple, chocolate), whipped cream, nuts, 2 cherries and two little American flags served in a steel dish on a wood trough. It was subsequently renamed "Pig's Trough" by some franchises in the early 1970's. In 1976 it was renamed "Two For the Road", then in 1977 it was changed back to "The Pigs Trough" nationally. In the 1960's/early 1970's you would win a pin/badge for eating the entire sunday solo; later on, the pin was replaced with a wearable ribbon (like the blue ribbon one would win at the local fair)Rogerkbaker (talk) 05:24, 28 January 2020 (UTC).[reply]
