City and district[edit]

As habitual, full confusion between city and district. The city of course has not 1.684.000 citizens but ten times less.--83.52.18.66 (talk) 19:10, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

faizabad my best city[edit]

my city is very lovely city Shahbankhan (talk) 14:32, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Faizabad the city hasn't been renamed, Faizabad the district has been renamed to Ayodhya[edit]

Thanks Theintuitus - Do you have a reference that covers that? - Arjayay (talk) 14:04, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, my bad. Completely slipped my mind to add the reference. [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theintuitus (talkcontribs) 14:30, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I explain that by saying they have no clue what they are saying. They just need to say it.
Do you think that they physically moved all the district offices from Faizabad to Ayodhya? They would have needed Hanuman to come and do it for them. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 22:06, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The government has not changed the name of the city of Faizabad, but has merged the entire city of Faizabad with the city of Ayodhya. And now there is a complete Ayodhya city. Faizabad city is not in existence since November 2018. Indiatimes2014 (talk) 12:26, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Subhash Chandra Bose was on the banks of Saryu after being declared dead? Seriously?[edit]

Not done: as you have not requested a change.
Please request your change in the form "Please replace XXX with YYY" or "Please add ZZZ between PPP and QQQ".
Please also cite reliable sources to back up your request, without which no information should be added to, or changed in, any article.
Please do not request renaming the article to Ayodhya - Arjayay (talk) 12:09, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The problem was that the template field specifies the article to be edited, and the IP editor assumed that it was the change that he/she wished for: {{edit semi-protected|Ayodhya
And yes, he/she was asking for the name to be changed to Ayodhya. Which he/she cannot have because the common name is Faizabad. -- Toddy1 (talk) 12:15, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion for deleting this Faizabad Wikipedia page[edit]

Sir Uttar Pradesh Government has merged the Municipal Corporation of Faizabad city with Ayodhya Municipal Corporation in 2017. Since 2017 the entire Faizabad area is part of Ayodhya Municipal Corporation. In November 2018, the government changed the name of Faizabad district and division to Ayodhya district and division. Since November 2018, the government considers the entire Ayodhya Municipal Corporation area to be Ayodhya city. The government has removed the name Faizabad from all government departments and institutions. Since November 2018, the government considers the city of Ayodhya as the headquarters of Ayodhya district. The government has not transferred the district headquarters from Faizabad city to Ayodhya city, but Faizabad city has ceased to exist from November 2018. And the entire Faizabad region is officially part of the city of Ayodhya. Indiatimes2014 (talk) 11:23, 1 March 2022 (UTC)Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Sanjay Kumar Tiwari20/Archive[reply]

I am a resident of Ayodhya. The entire Faizabad is considered as the city of Ayodhya since November 2018. Ayodhya is the name of the city in all government offices, hospitals, schools here. The residents here consider and write this city as Ayodhya. Indiatimes2014 (talk) 11:32, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Google map is still showing Faizabad as a city but it is wrong information. Faizabad is not in existence. Complete Faizabad area is part of Ayodhya city.thats why i am requesting you to discuss on this topic seriously and delete this Faizabad Wikipedia page because it is creating confusion Indiatimes2014 (talk) 12:31, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(1) Wikipedia has no control over Google maps (2) the lede sentence already notes the merger; see also WP:COMMONNAME. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:19, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sir Ayodhya name is more common and famous name than Faizabad. You can check it on your Wikipedia page also. And now Faizabad name is creating confusion between people. That's why I am requesting you to delete this Faizabad page. Indiatimes2014 (talk) 12:57, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Some BJP politicians (and Wikipedia editors who work on their behalf) are on a crusade to extinguish the name Faizabad from history. The obvious parallel is with ancient Egyptian monarchs who tried to erase the names of some of their predecessors such as Akhenaten, Tutankhamun and Ay. It is not a legitimate reason to delete the article.-- Toddy1 (talk) 13:43, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

BJP is in power in central Government of India and also in Uttar Pradesh. BJP is world's biggest political party. Indian people always support BJP for doing good development works in our India. Indiatimes2014 (talk) 10:11, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Faizabad in the Imperial Gazetteer of India (1908)[edit]

In Volume 12 of the Imperial Gazetteer of India (1908), Faizabad is listed as Fyzabad (though the article also used the spelling Faizabad. Page 117 says:
When Saadat Khan was appointed governor of Oudh he built a hunting lodge 4 miles west of Ajodhya, then the head-quarters of the province. Gardens were laid out and shops sprang up un the neighbourhood, and during the time of his successor Safdar Jang the name Faizabad was first applied. Shuja-ud-daula, the third Nawab, lived chiefly at Lucknow during the early part of his reign; but after his defeat at Buxar in 1764 he made Fyzabad his residence, and during the remainder of his life added largely to its defences and also laid a large town. Shuja-ud-daula died early in 1775, and before the close of the year Asaf-ud-daula moved permanently to Lucknow. The importance of Fyzabad declined, but it remained the home of Asaf-ud-daula's grandmother and mother, the Nawab Begam and Bahu Begam, was the subject of charges against Warren Hastings. After the death of Bahu Begam in 1816 Fyzabad decayed still father, but its position has improved since annexation.

Faizabad was a city (now part of Ayodhya city)[edit]

Faizabad is a former city (now part of Ayodhya city) since November 2018. It is clear ly mentioned in the official website of Ayodhya Municipal Corporation, Ayodhya. If any one wants to know then he can check it on the official website page of Ayodhya Municipal Corporation (Ayodhya Nagar Nigam) in English and Hindi both languages. http://www.nagarnigamayodhya.in/hi This is the official website of Ayodhya Municipal Corporation. @Asianfire22: Wait for WP:CONSENSUS before you try modifying the article. This is a contentious topic. I've reverted your edits for now. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:02, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The two cities were administered jointly from 1865 to 1978, and from 2017 to the present day. It did not mean that one of them ceased to exist. I have added to Ayodhya Municipal Corporation-- Toddy1 (talk) 12:15, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikilink - Sarayu River (Ayodhya) or Ghaghara - it does not make any difference[edit]

There is a dispute over linking. Originally the thing linked to was Sarayu River (Ayodhya), but an IP editor wants the thing linked to to be Ghaghara.[2],[3]. The IP editor says: River Ghaghara is traditionally known as Saryu in Ayodhya and Faizabad. The link is in piped wikilink.

Sarayu River (Ayodhya) is a redirect to Ghaghara.-- Toddy1 (talk) 16:16, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
