Best Picture Nomination section[edit]

while it may make sense to include reference to the films inclusion in the Academy Awards being a surprise, due to its lukewarm critical reception, why is a lengthy diatribe by some Tom O'Neil insulting other critics' reaction to the film included at all? His particular commentary at the of-questionable-notability GoldDerby dot com makes up the vast majority of the special section on its Academy Award nominations (and a large part of the Wikipedia article on the film as a whole) and perhaps the only verifiable, salient point included in his four (!) quotes is that "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" is by far the lowest-rated film to receive such a nomination. Certainly his suppositions about the attitudes of "the critics" (who gave similarly mediocre reviews to the film's source material) and warm reminiscences of how the audience he saw the film with reacted to it aren't of a significance deserving inclusion.

I'm sure we could find apologists for any film or film-maker that believes they've been "snubbed" by the Academy or any of the other award-giving bodies, but that does not necessarily merit their inclusion (at least at length) in the respective films' Wikipedia articles, so why does it here? Its presence screams of someone with an agenda, namely to negate or counter-balance the middling critical consensus cited above in the article. If the goal is to actually present a wider range of critical opinion on the film, then citable examples from notable critics would be far better than the haranguing of the critics by a third-party source positing motives for their general apathy toward the film.

This section refers to New Oscar Rules, but does not appear to have a link to what those might be precisely.

I propose that we remove the section altogether. The information is clear on the table above and anything further is unnecessary. Hamsterlopithecus (talk) 19:36, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

errors in movie article[edit]

The Wikipedia article on "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (film)" has several errors.

In general, the summary goes chronologically, but the film does not. Significant facts are revealed in the summary far before they appear in the movie.

And the important "notstop looking" words circled in red make no sense taken alone, a concept that works perfectly with the all-important revelation that they simply happened to be on the back of a newspaper page whose other side contained the item being circled in bright ink that showed all the way through (Black's phone number). These words are shown many times in the movie, yet the article wrongly says that the words circled are "never stop looking", bungling the whole concept of this important part of the movie.
