Concern over expansion of very specific issues of Law Enforcement and the addition of a new Homelessness article in light of efforts to bring Article into agreement with WikiProjects US Cities

There is no precedent for such development of specific fluid political issues. Let all interested weigh in here on the relevance and appropriateness of this unusual sectioning of a major city article. Norcalal 01:51, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

I think the sectioning off of the Wiyot article is a very good idea. Refferences to this event appear on the Humboldt County page, the Eureka page, the Wiyot page, and (I believe) the Arcata page. I don't know that much about how to deal with these types of issues in Wikipedia, but it seems to me that so much repetition of the same event could easily be dealt with by a reference to a separate page. That way it would be easier to keep pace with all the facts that are important to the massacre. As to Law Enforcement, I am not sure who the original authors of this piece were, but I moved it to Eureka, where it at least seems appropriate, from Humboldt County, where it was not at all appropriate. Since then I have focused mainly on trying to keep the facts of the incident straight, but not on the overall picture. I think many of the points made about the overall picture are valid. I'm not sure how it should be done, but a separate article for this may be reasonable. In any case, I would also like to point out that there are a raft of articles relating to the North Coast region (Arcata, Eureka, Humboldt County, Arcata Eye, David Cobb, etc) that have been used for promotion of specific politics. This region is small and has a large number of politcally active and vocal people, many of whom are trying to fight for causes that may strike many people outside the region as completely strange. So in a sense a lot of what appears in these pages is the product of local political ferment. I know people who are historians in the area who would be very good candidates to write reasonable and balanced accounts, as opposed to those who have a political agenda. I have been encouraging them to work on these pages for a long time, but unfortunately they are all tech phobes. Barring that, maybe writers could sections that highlight interesting/ unique aspects of Eureka (like the architecture section), and people who are experienced in framing city articles could help in trying to make the article into a streamlined, balanced and accurate representation. --Metatree 19:13, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
