Untitled[edit]

Ernie Harwell was also the voice used on the excellent computer baseball game,"Baseball For Windows." Produced by APBA it was a legendary game where he was the announcer. www.apbagames.com

Retirement[edit]

This article needs to say how and when Harwell retired, etc. Also, any audio samples of him would improve the article. I remember listening to his last call on his last game for the tigers and his brief, unpretentious retirement words over the air. Responsible for giving Jose Feliciano the chance in 1968 to do the Star Spangled Banner at Tiger Stadium in WS Game 5[edit]

Don't Panic (Just Yet, Anyway) Over Threat To Remove Image[edit]

While it is true that a certain someone who is acting like a Class-A Jerk will almost certainly be able to remove the current image (I'll give User:Jappalang this much credit: He's a damned good wiki-lawyer.), I am working on securing from the Detroit Public Library permission to use two images from their Ernie Harwell Sports Collection. I spoke with an archivist the other day, and she told me that it would be a number of days before she would be able to evaluate the various licensing agreements. I just noticed this was nominated. I think a quick fail is appropriate, but given that the nominator is fairly new and doing a good job so far, we should give extensive feedback on what this article needs to pass as a GA so that he can go about becoming a major editor to this page, and he can nominate again when it's ready. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:13, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

More sources needed[edit]

Reading about his being canned by the Tigers in 1991 and then Illitch making his return a high priority I thought "where are the sources?" I vaguely remembering that Harwell was a legend, and maybe even more vageuly remember something about his leaving, but I have to admit in 1999 I didn't even realize that Illitch now owned both the Tigers and the Red Wings. I missed when Moynihan sold the Tigers. I am sure the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press and probalby other papers covered these issues, and there may be sources that have since added insight, but we need to start citing them in the article.John Pack Lambert (talk) 04:10, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
