Retired Jersey Number[edit]

"Following his death, the Browns retired his number 44 jersey in honor of Davis."

Defensive Position?[edit]

In the movie they show him playing defense. I assume back in the 60's it wasn't uncommon for players to play "iron man" and in addition to a running back he was also a linebacker or something, but I'm not sure. KenFehling (talk) 10:17, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ken -- Davis played defensive back when he wasn't running wild on offense. The "two-way" player persisted well into the 60s, and perhaps beyond. Ernest Davis[edit]

I will probably log in and join later, want to see how this works.

Did Mr. Davis ever marry the young lady in the movie (Sarah)? and what is John Brown's version of things since he says the movie did not accurately account Mr. Davis' life? He seemed to be a wonderful grounded young man and the others too.

Significant Error[edit]

The article states that Jim Brown was Davis's teammate at Syracuse. This is incorrect. Davis entered SU as a freshman in 1958, played varsity football from '59 through '61. Brown's senior season with the Orangemen was 1956, his final game being the 1957 Cotton Bowl, against Texas Christian. He began his NFL career in '57. Davis' refusal to play for the Redskins[edit]

There are some sources stating that Davis demanded a trade from the Redskins, as he would not play for George Preston Marshall. This is stated on Marshall's Wikipedia page, as well as some other sources:

contradictions asserted: 1979 or 2007?[edit]

The article says that Davis "was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in the fall of 1979, coinciding with the premiere of The Express" yet the "motion picture biography, The Express: The Ernie Davis Story, directed by Gary Fleder and based on the non-fiction book The Elmira Express: the Story of Ernie Davis by Robert C.
