Till 1989?[edit]

The article says "Three of the PV locomotives were in service until 1989". 1989? Surely that's got to be a mistake? Gatoclass (talk) 09:56, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's Spanish, not Italian as I thought. Will change the ref in the article to show this. Am going to alter the date to 1889 as if it had been 1989 we'd have heard a lot more about Engerth locomotives. Mjroots (talk) 11:56, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Spanish may be difficult to understand, even for native speakers. Following the article, or either all dates are incorrect, or 1989 as the last year of service is correct. There are references in the article to dates in the middle 40s and 50s, so the last year of service have to be after 1950. Miguel.mateo (talk) 12:23, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, that does make sense, now you mention it. Photos on that site say 1950s, so they must have been in service until 1989 as per last para. Confirmation from someone else who understands Spanish would be welcome. Mjroots (talk) 16:01, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Spanish is my tongue language, and based on what the article says it make sense to be 1989. I would suggest to confirm somewhere else though. Let me add that the Spanish article is written in a very difficult to understand language, kind of too technical, so if you are not really interested in the topic and skip sentences in the article you get lost at the end. (outdent for clarity) Sorry for the delayed response, Mjroots. The last paragraph of the linked source says: Todas las "Krauss-Engerth" llegaron hasta los últimos tiempos del vapor en el PV En 1987 todavía se encontraban en servicio las máquinas números 11, 14, 17, 19 y 31. Tres de ellas continuaban en activo a principios de 1989, las números 14, 19 y 31, siendo las últimas máquinas de vapor del PV. Fueron retiradas en este mismo año. which translates to:

All of the "Krauss-Engerth" were present until the last years of the PV Steam Engine/Train (translation could go either way, I don't know enough about old train terminology to clarify that one) in 1987. In that year, Train numbers 11,14,17,19 and 31 were still active. Three of these remained in service at the beginning of 1989. Trains 14,19 and 31 were the last PV steam engine/trains (same issue as above). They were retired this same year."

As for whether 1989 conflicts with the rest of your information, I'm happy to dig further in the Spanish sources if you need that. This whole source refers to the 20th Century of these locomotives. I don't have time right now to do a full translation but can probably do it within 24 hours if you need. Let me know.
