this is it, seriously, this is all there is on emmitt?[edit]

Doen't Jerry Rice have the post season record for TD's?

c'mon, emmitt is one of the greatest football players( true 'dat') who played for some of the greatest dallas teams of all-time. take out all that crap about his post-playing days, and this article is basically a stub. i honestly don't know enough encyclopedic information about smith, but there must be somebody out there who knows and is willing to put in the work in order to give one of the greatest players a page worthy of his accomplishments. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.119.143.219 (talk) 03:57, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can somebody explain to me how there's a longer article for Herschel Walker than for Emmitt Smith? And there are more pictures. -Amit

This page details everything except for his actual career! Where's the details on the Cowboy's Super Bowl dominance in the 90s? Where's the details on his move to Arizona? Where's his career!? 63.87.118.179 (talk) 19:52, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's why it's been tagged since last year for someone to expand it to include his career. Feel free. Enigma message 21:10, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Herchel Walker[edit]

I'm a huge Cowboys fan, but technically Smith isn't in the Pro Football Hall of Fame yet.

For all I think Smith has made it in the Pro Football Hall of Fame many times in my book and in yours. My all time favorite player!

Typos[edit]

Dude, can someone remove all the typos? I'm from Germany, and even I notice them.

Point them out and I'll correct them, or fix them yourself. Enigma message 21:10, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism[edit]

none of what Emmitt Did will really matter in a few years when Ladanlian Tomlinson bla bla bla who cares about LT Emmitt is 2 times better than LT will ever be —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.86.39.33 (talk) 18:26, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is some criticism in the Barry Sanders article, and that of other Running Backs. However, there is none for Emmitt? Should it be added? I know many sports fans and writers who maintain that Emmitt had the benefit of playing for a very good team most of his career, unlike either Sanders or Payton, and was able to succeed largerly due to being on a good team.

Yeah, Larry Bird wasn't any good either, he just happen to play for a great team. Michael Jordan only looked great because he played for them great Will Purdue led Bulls teams. Magic Johnson? Thank goodness the Lakers had Kurt Rambis. We all know he's the real reason the Lakers won all them titles. Tiger Woods insn't great, he just happens to play for a great caddy. Give me a break. Emmitt was the reason the Cowboys were world champions? Their record was 1-15 the year before he got there. I guess you think all the yards he gained in high school and college were because he played on great teams there too! Yeah right! Escambia had only 1 winning season in 20 years prior to him arriving. During his stay they had 4 straight winning seasons including 2 state titles. There are no great teams, just great players who make teams champions. Enough Said!!!!

michael jordan doesnt need lineman to block his way to the basket. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.15.153.255 (talk) 11:07, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

emmit was only 5'9 thank you very much

I assume this is an attempt at discussion. Please be more clear, and try to form a complete argument.

I think what he is trying to say is that, even in the start of Emmitt's carrer, you could not find many smaller running backs let alone one that succeded as greatly as Emmitt did. For some one his size to be at the helm of the running back position is amazing enough, but all that he accomplished is unheard of. Thats what he was trying to say.

-Jeff. Cheers.

It's the same argument, over and over. Emmitt Smith was only good because his team was good. He had Michael Irvin and Troy Aikman. Michael was only good because he had Emmitt and Troy. Troy was only good because he had Emmitt and Michael. So essentially this was a great team of players that weren't really any good. Makes no sense. Sorry to tell you people, the team was great, because the players were great. --Cdman882 13:52, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

How is his doing a hair dye commercial notable? Recentism is the only explanation I can see. Neil Hunt (talk) 12:23, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good article?[edit]

With a little push in the NFL section and a cleanup in the retirement section, this could be rated as a ood article, imo. The NFL is not my thing, so anybody want to give it a shot? Zeng8r (talk) 16:19, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Final team?[edit]

Since Emmitt signed a one day contract with the Cowboys, shouldn't we update his final team to be with the Cowboys? Thoughts? Bigcats lair (talk) 01:16, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, those one-day ceremonial contracts are not official contracts. Eagles 24/7 (C) 01:38, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Widely considered to be the greatest"[edit]

I was pretty concerned by that comment (being both subject and unsourced), and I have put a <<fact>> tag on it for now, as it really needs sources. For the heck of it I ran a Google search on 'greatest running back in NFL history' and just looking at the top 5 hits, they rank Smith as 4th, 10th, 2nd, 4th and 10th. Which is quite a long way away from people widely considering him to be a consensus #1. Very happy to leave it there for now, but unless that statement can get backed up with some pretty solid sources, it probably has to go. --Legis (talk - contribs) 13:47, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Legis: I believe that the lead previously described Smith as "one of the greatest running backs in NFL history." I think that statement is easily defensible based on the sources you cited above, as well as others included in the article. I don't know that there is a "consensus" No. 1 NFL running back, as a strong case can be made for Walter Payton and others. I am going to restore the previous wording. If someone wants to make the case for Smith being the all-time greatest, they need to at least provide an in-line footnote expressing that opinion. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 13:56, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, sounds very sensible. I don't think anyone could seriously disagree that he is 'one of the greatest', but we can always plug some of the above links in as sources if necessary. --Legis (talk - contribs) 09:39, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

postseason career statistics[edit]

ES helped lead the Cowboys to a number of SuperBowls. Can we get someone to enter the postseason stats in a column, as well?72.174.131.123 (talk) 00:38, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
