Middle name[edit]

I've not been able to find a reliable source for Emily Watson's middle name. It has been Anita on this page for a long time (since this edit [1]), but it was changed to Margaret with this edit [2] without citing any source. Google (in English) gives

  • 1040 results for "Emily Anita Watson" of which 100 are not listed as being very similar to other pages;
  • 667 if -wikipedia is added of which 102 are not very similar;
  • 105 for "Emily Margaret Watson" (20 not being very similar);
  • 119 if -wikipedia is added (!) (18 not being very similar).

It should also be noted that at least one unrelated Margaret exists [3].

The middle name Anita was added to this page with the aforementioned edit (19 February 2005) and it is confirmed by this older page from the IMDb [4] (22 November 2003).

This page [5] says the name is "WATSON, Emily Margaret", adding "Checked birth at Family Records Centre, London. Born in Islington, London registration district."

This looks to me as the most authoritative source so far, but it's not in the Archive, so I'm unable to determine when the BFI page was created or updated.

I'm not reverting to Anita, but better documented sources would be nice, so I tagged Margaret with a {{fact}} template.

You can search for her name here. Her middle name is indeed "Margaret". All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 08:32, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Awards in the lead sentence[edit]

I removed the awards from the lead sentence, for the lead sentence describes what a subject is, not what they have achieved: however, I got reverted. I'll explain why I removed them: Emily Watson was not born with the awards she has won and/or been nominated for, and they are something that she has done, but they are not what she is. There is nothing wrong with mentioning them later on in another part of the lead section, but not in the lead sentence itself. Highlighting them in the lead sentence gives them importance over other content in the article thereby violating neutral point of view, mentioning them later in the lead section adds to her notability and is fine. This and this also cover the above. Acalamari 17:13, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[edit]

"Raised an Anglican" does not mean "is an Anglican" and hence is not a good enough reference to add this person to Christian or Anglican categories. DJ Clayworth (talk) 17:37, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dylan's father?[edit]

"Watson married Jack Waters [...]. Their daughter, Juliet, was born in autumn 2005, and her son Dylan in 2009" suggests that Waters isn't Dylan's father; else why *Their* daughter/*her* son? Is the hint intended? 86.132.220.139 (talk) 19:55, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Point taken. Serendipodous 20:23, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Non-encyclopaedic content in article[edit]

Why is there a story about Watson going to the bedside of her dying mother but not getting there on time in this article? By no stretch of the imagination is it noteworthy and of any relevance to an encyclopaedia article. If her mother's death was noteworthy in its own right as she was internationally known, then it might be relevant. But she isn't. Therefore it is a personal matter, not a significant biographical fact and so not something relevant to an encyclopaedia article. Nor is the fact that Ms Watson mentio0ned it in an interview relevant. Most of what people say in interviews is not relevant to biographical articles in an encyclopaedia.
