Emergency War Orders stating the a member of the joint staff can give orders to a combatant commander[edit]
This statement that the CNO can command a commander of a combatant command has no citation, which is required, as it goes again all US military command regulations on the role of operational and staff officers (who have no operational control after the Goldwater nickson act). If you revert please add a supporting citation. There are classified EWOs dealing with catastrophic loss of the military, as in if 90% of the military were wiped out in a nuclear war, for instance. In my 18 years in the military, I only saw one such order, it is declassified now and dealt with the Army Chief of Staff directly commanding troops in the field in the event of a mainland invasion of the United States. Classified EWOs would be almost impossible to cite, so as this is a minor point it can certainly be kept out of teh article until better sources come to light. -O.R.Comms 15:45, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
