Please, if anyone has the DNR logo, or a device with it on it, please upload it. I can't find it anywhere. ProhibitOnions 15:36, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't National's DNR (http://cache.national.com/ds/LM/LM1894.pdf) just an integrated implementation of Philip's Dynamic Noise Limiter (DNL) (http://audiotools.com/noise.html)? Here's a reference to a 1971 publication of the circuit: http://freespace.virgin.net/ljmayes.mal/comp/philips.htm

I believe it is, FacilitatedSystems (please don't forget to sign your comments with four tildes next time, like this: ~~~~), as Philips didn't ask for royalties. AFAIK, National Semiconductor tweaked a few things and fit it on a single chip, which was a big deal in 1983, and probably made enough changes so that they could claim it as their own refinement. There was, as mentioned above, a DNR logo, although the PDF file you link to doesn't show it (nor does it mention Philips). I think it's probably fair to refer to this as a further development of DNL in the text. Regards, ProhibitOnions (T) 13:40, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge was done - Now this article needs to be deleted[edit]

The conclusion of the deletion discussion was to merge this article into Noise_reduction#In_audio, and I see that that has now been done. Therefore, there are now two copies of this--the main article here, and the duplicate inside the article Noise_reduction. I just made a copy edit to this one, only to find the other copy of this article's text in Noise_reduction and make the edit it again. I actually made a better edit of the same sentence there, but I didn't bother to re-edit this, because this needs to be deleted. I'm an unregistered causal user and can't delete pages, so would someone who can please do this? (Or does it have to go through a multi-person process?) It would probably be a good idea before deleting this article to verify that there haven't been any other useful edits here since the merged copy was made. (I haven't looked closely to verify that the two copies exactly matched before my editing today, so useful edits here may exist before or after right now.)

Also, it occurs to me that if the boilerplate at the top of the page announcing the deletion attempt and its conclusion had suggested looking for the merged version and editing only that one if it exists, I would not have edited here. Maybe that would be a useful revision for the boilerplate generally? The wording as it is seemed to imply that the merge in fact *had not* been completed.

Update: I have gone ahead and done a search for all the pages that link to this page, and redirected those links on all except the user talk and other special pages to Noise_reduction#Dynamic_Noise_Reduction. That is, I changed all the article and redirection pages to point to the merged copy. I'm not sure what the etiquette is regarding editing talk page text that one did not write oneself, so I'll leave that alone. Also, if anyone knows of a quick and easy way to change multiple links--like, say, if the Wiki software automatically allows provides for link substitution when deleting a page, so that what I did was a waste of manual effort, please let me know (by posting on my current [since my IP occasionally changes] user talk page or here). Thanks.

I changed the page to a redirect to the appropriate section. Those other changes didn't really need to be done. Dicklyon (talk) 20:53, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
