Relevance of race[edit]

I am not American so maybe I do not "get" the phenomenon of institutional racism present in that country, but I am confused as to why the opening paragraph mentions the race of both Higgs and his victims. I would imagine that race would only be mentioned for racist crimes, like those of Dylann Roof, as it is par for the course to be murdered by someone of the same race. I imagine that Ted Bundy only killed white women, but nobody in their right mind would ever characterize his murders in that way. Unknown Temptation (talk) 16:49, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Speculative opinion does not belong in wikipedia[edit]

Inexpiable seems intent on including speculation about Joe Biden and federal capital punishment in the opening paragraphs of this article. Such non-authoritative content does not belong on this page, much less as an introductory paragraph. DiamondInTheRug (talk) 06:17, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DiamondInTheRug, I agree with this. That paragraph about Biden is speculative and not directly relevant, and I don't think it should be mentioned at that point in the article (if at all). This is supported by WP:CRYSTALBALL. Inexpiable, please take care to avoid edit warring - your ongoing effort to keep vandalism off this article is deeply appreciated, but Diamond's edit is not vandalism, and the WP:ONUS to achieve consensus is on you if you want the paragraph to remain. warmly, ezlev. talk 06:24, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ezlev I will reword it when the execution is carried out - probably within moments now. I think it's worth at least mentioning he will be the last person executed by the federal government during Trump's presidency however. Inexpiable (talk) 06:29, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Inexpiable, agreed, as that last part isn't speculation. Also, Diamond, please don't accuse Inexpiable of vandalism or partisan motivations as you did in your edit summary. This user wrote this article and has been improving it and actively removing vandalism from it ever since, a feat which would be impressive and worthy of respect even if assuming good faith wasn't a guideline, which it is. Inexpiable, thank you for the work you're doing. warmly, ezlev. talk 06:32, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ezlev still rewording now the execution has gone ahead, I made a backup save at the time to avoid lots of people editing the page during my edit. Inexpiable (talk) 06:35, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That paragraph has been called out multiple times for this exact reason by other users who have attempted dialogue and it has repeatedly been restored without engagement by inexpiable to understand the objections. That is not good faith. DiamondInTheRug (talk) 06:38, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's been changed, can you leave it now please. You delete info about the execution which is vandalism. Just delete the part about Joe Biden's views on capital punishment then. Inexpiable (talk) 06:41, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

> He is likely to remain the last person executed by the United States federal government for a while. Higgs's execution took place only four days before Joe Biden's inauguration.[7]

This is not a defensible inclusion in an encyclopedia. DiamondInTheRug (talk) 06:43, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Changed it. Inexpiable (talk) 06:45, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You consistently use unencyclopedic language and incorporate your own speculation and unspoken framing. It does not belong on Wikipedia. DiamondInTheRug (talk) 06:48, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There's more updates[edit]

There's more updates coming. Here is the twitter account of a reporter present at the execution: https://twitter.com/mtarm. LadyFang (talk) 06:56, 16 January 2021 (UTC)LadyFang[reply]

What specific information from the twitter account of the reporter do you want to include in the article LadyFang? Jurisdicta (talk) 03:54, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
