Dated?[edit]

Surely this term has not found usage for decades, if not a century? I've certainly never heard of it used in modern times, and this should certainly be added. --Breadandcheese (talk) 12:07, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Slightly contemptuous?[edit]

That dominie is "a slightly contemptuous term for a minister or for a schoolmaster" is not found in the Scots Language Centre ref, although it could be extrapolated from the proverb where the term is in regard to University students, though that is straying into WP:SYNTH. I don't have access to the OED so don't know if this ref supports the assertion but the online Oxford dictionaries site does not, in fact quite the reverse. There is nothing that supports that in the OED. It just says a schoolmaster, "now mainly Scottish".--SabreBD (talk) 14:22, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
