Goals[edit]

For the last month I have been at work, in my sandbox, on an expansion of the Discography of Sibelius symphony cycles. I have moved this content from my sandbox into the draftspace, so that other editors may more easily get involved. My ambition for this list is FLC sometime in June or July (probably the latter, since my day job beckons). I will say that it's been a lot of fun to research this topic and to hunt down hardcopies of CD booklets (information straight from the source... third party websites, in my opinion, simply won't do)... a treasure hunt, indeed! (I'd like to take a moment to here acknowledge the Sibelians over at TalkClassical.com who generously provided me scans of liner notes from their personal collections.)

A secondary goal of mine is for this list to, eventually, serve as an inspiration (perhaps even a template of sorts) for enterprising editors who write about other symphonists. As a Sibelian, I'm not the right person to provide the discographies for the Beethoven, Mahler, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Bruckner, Shostakovich, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Dvořák, Nielsen, or Prokofiev cycles. But, hopefully, someone out there is... undoubtedly, each of these symphonists is deserving of such attention, and the lay community that enjoys classical music would benefit from the informational centralization and democratization that a discography article would provide. Horizontal or vertical layout of images[edit]

@Aza24, Finnusertop, Gerda Arendt, and Ipigott: Hi, all. Just wanted to take a quick poll, re: the layout of the conductor images used in the article.

On the one hand, especially on sports lists (e.g.), I have seen the vertical layout utilized. However, the tables in the discography are quite extensive and, when utilizing vertical alignment, become scrunched, causing many rows to become 2–4 text lines long. An alternative, and a means to acquire more breathing room for the table, is to move to horizontal layout via the gallery template.

I cannot decide which aesthetic I prefer. What think you?

The vertical layout is definitely more "typical" for lists in general—but in this case I would prefer the horizontal as you're giving a lot of information in each row, so maximizing the readability when you don't have the pictures next to the table taking up space seems ideal.
