Size of budget[edit]

As far as I could make out, the annual budget is 700million euros or thereabout, whereas the aid budget for member states alltogether is around x80 this amount. This is not immediately clear from the way the article is written. Indeed, it rather implies the eu organisation gives quite a lot, whereas its contribution is quite modest. This needs some rewriting to make the situation clearer. I'm not going to do so instantly, because it might be useful for anyone familiar with the subject to comment? The section has been updated and should read now clearer gillmti

Confused information[edit]

I agree with the previous comment. This article confuses international aid in general with the sub-heading of humanitarian aid, which is a small part of the overall total. The facts relating to international aid as a whole are not appropriate for this article. 217.41.240.15 (talk) 14:59, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reform[edit]

Information under the section "Reform" was moved to the section "History".

Article move[edit]

I've renamed the article. Here's why,

  • The Manual of Style is dead against using Acronyms as page titles, unless the subject is completely unknown under its long form. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (abbreviations).
  • Using the short form requires the use of an otherwise completely unnecessary disambiguation brackets.
  • The long, the "European Community Humanitarian Aid Office" is also self-explanatory for people unfamiliar with the EU.

I've renamed it "European Community Humanitarian Aid Office" as titles which emphasise the letters which make up the acronym are discouraged per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (capital letters)#Acronyms and initialisms. — Blue-Haired Lawyer 16:31, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for move: this is the official denomination as stated on the ECHO website - http://ec.europa.eu/echo/media/identity_en.htm. - Kaxbe (talk) 10:28, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

European Community Humanitarian Aid OfficeECHO (European Commission) — The current name is out of date, but as stated above the common name prevails. However the full title is not the common name, the common name is ECHO which is why that acronym has officially been retained after the name change. ECHO (European Commission) was the previous title of this page and is the most suitable now.- J.Logan`t: 13:29, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

EU Aid Volunteers needs its own page[edit]

European Voluntary Humanitarian Aid Corps (EVHAC) is now more commonly referred to as EU Aid Volunteers, and it needs its own page, just as Peace Corps, United Nations Volunteers, Voluntary Service Overseas, CUSO and European Voluntary Service have individual pages.
