Is this title really recognized by the Irish government?[edit]

Our source indicates that it is, but our source is NewYorkSocialDiary.com - a spin-off of a column in Quest Magazine, which I gather is a relatively low-circulation local publication about society doings in New York. (No offense to Quest Magazine, which I assume is perfectly reliable on the subjects within the realm of their own expertise.)

While I don't yet doubt the truth of the statement enough to remove it outright, I do think this warrants further investigation and an improvement of sourcing if possible. (And removal, if it can't be confirmed somehow.)

I hardly know where to begin.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 10:43, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, the Irish government doesn't award or recognise any noble titles. The Chief Herald's Office was, at one stage, recognising some of the Chiefs of the Name of Gaelic clans, but dicontinued that practice after a scandal involving a false claim. I've removed the claim.
