Inspired By?[edit]

Shouldn't it be noted that it is inspired by Aeon of Strife, not Defense of the Ancients? AoS was way before DotA and is the "base" on which DotA is founded. 38.115.60.50 (talk) 23:49, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DotA is inspired by AoS, yes, but how do you know this game is influenced by AoS and not DotA? 81.233.196.49 (talk) 10:48, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is inherited. If Demigod was inspired by DotA, and DotA was inspired by AoS, then Demigod was inspired by AoS. --Izno (talk) 04:05, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Or they had a pressrelease that said it was inspired by DotA, which said nothing about AoS. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.207.48.216 (talk) 21:59, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Where did they say it was inspired by DotA, can someone post a link? Newuser12345215 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 00:04, 10 October 2008 (UTC).[reply]
Official Dev Diary states that Demigod is inspired from Dota: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/320706 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.100.32.213 (talk) 09:05, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

http://pc.ign.com/articles/950/950462p1.html is the link you're looking for. They specifically say DotA. And yes, DotA was influenced by AoS. But that's a non-issue. Unless you add a qualifier like, "DG was inspired by DotA (which was, in turn, inspiried in its infancy by AoS). But that is superfluous information. I understand that you may be a fan of AoS and might be a DotA-hater (like myself), but that simply is not what the developers said. You may as well tell me that the airplane was inspired by the velocioraptor when someone says the wings were inspired by those of birds. Sure, the raptors were the predecessors of birds, but that does not mean that they are entirely alike. Thus, it is much more accurate to state the actual source material than what "evolved" into the source material.209.91.141.58 (talk) 16:38, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The History part doesn't seem relevant after release, unfortunately I'm at work and don't have time to change it correctly (because it's the only part in which the thumb image looks good!!). Sirstrahd (talk) 08:43, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Borrows from what?[edit]

"The game is described as an action/RPG/RTS hybrid, a fractional inspiration of the Warcraft III custom map Defense of the Ancients, and borrows from both of those genres." Both of what genres? RTS and RTS? There's only one game there with only one genre. And is "fractional inspiration" really the best way to say "a game thats kinda like this game but not quite". I suppose I'm complaining, but it really doesnt sound right or read well to me —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.149.125.180 (talk) 10:09, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

yes it does not make sense especially when you look at the genre list on the right side info box "Genre(s) Action, role-playing, real-time strategy" 98.210.139.210 (talk) 05:11, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Game guides[edit]

Do not add things like "list of demigods, weapons, tips and tricks and such information". Please follow the guidelines. --SkyWalker (talk) 15:35, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you have huge temptation to add such guides please do it in this site. --SkyWalker (talk) 15:37, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's unclear to me how you can possibly achieve a comprehensive article without giving any information about the main characters. It's like talking about Pac Man without the ghosts. Game guides are not desirable because, in part, they are unsubstantiated opinion, but there's a big difference between simply saying "there is a character called the Rook who looks like a turret" and giving strategy advice on how to play him. CONNECTIVITY ISSUES[edit]

Changed wording for the sake of objectivity. Made it clear that this is Stardock's explanation for connectivity issues. Removed unreferenced material. Removed unrelated material about copy protection. Stardock has not claimed low level copy protection to be related to these connectivity issues. Low level copy protection as the basis for the connectivity issues is strictly speculation, and not sourced factual material. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.233.216.3 (talk) 03:17, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stardock's explanation used was cherry picked for some reason. It was also out of date, not properly sourced, and not encyclopedic. Removed it. A subsection titled Launch that lays out connection and other problems might be appropriate or we can make it clearer in the reception because that has reliable sources that actually give commentary.Cptnono (talk) 07:46, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed the section was bad but I left it since the information, while badly sourced, was important. Now the reception section is awkward because the whole connectivity issues are not explained beforehand. The whole article needs a lot of work, I'll just leave it at that. --Odie5533 (talk) 07:59, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

System Requirements[edit]

Shouldn't this section be in the infobox? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.81.86.44 (talk) 06:09, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is a parameter for Template:Infobox VG . Cptnono (talk) 07:31, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion concerning genre[edit]

There is a discussion taking place on Talk:Dota (genre)#Merger proposal that I hope can provide more decisive resolutions to:

  • Whether we should have an article for the genre, as it now has a significant number of games in it
  • What the article about the genre should be named, and by extension, what name for the genre should be used on the relevant games' pages

Currently it's mostly been a 2-sided discussion, and I know it's been discussed here in the past, so any input from the contributors given the new climate would be welcome. ~rezecib (talk) 04:53, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Though there has been little discussion in the last two years, I would like to suggest renaming the genre to "action RTS", as per the official website: [1]: "Become a Demigod and wage war in spectacular arenas to ascend to godhood in this real-time action/strategy game."
