DECA versus Delta Epsilon Chi[edit]

A well-intention editor adjusted the redirect on this page which had been pointing to DECA (organization) away from that group to point to a legitimate honor society of the name Delta Epsilon Chi. Incorrectly, they blanked that redirect and replaced it with a short paragraph, creating only a stub. A full article would have much more information, an infobox, a list of chapters and other such information.

DECA is a high school and collegiate business organization of long tenure, formed in the 1950s. The redirect had been in place uncontested since it was drafted in 2006. The user that offered it then (15 years ago) is now inactive, and I assume User:Wikada is unavailable to comment on its validity.

For now, the change was reversed, as the matter requires more research and independent citations proving notability if the latter (the honor society) is to legitimately claim the Delta Epsilon Chi namespace. This may indeed be the outcome, as the honor society appears to be notable from my online review. But as a courtesy, I've written to DECA offices to inquire whether they have prior use of those Greek letters for (perhaps) a collegiate subsection or within a historical context. I reviewed DECA's website and was unable to find a detailed historical document that refers to those letters. It does not appear that they currently use those letters.

If both groups can legitimately claim the name then one of them would reasonably be able to use Delta Epsilon Chi, and the other might use a new page still to be created: either Delta Epsilon Chi (business) if DECA, or Delta Epsilon Chi (honor) if used for the honor society. Further, a DAB page would be appropriate.

I will (in the trite phrase popular today), circle back on this once I hear from DECA HQ. Jax MN (talk) 22:45, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Note, I found a reference that explained the collegiate branch of DECA had been formed under the name Delta Epsilon Chi in 1961 [1] Further Google searches show a number of collegiate chapters of DECA, some of which note their previous name of Delta Epsilon Chi, with the inference that this name has been retired. So it appears that there was a fairly recent name change. From what I can tell, the Greek letter name has been scrubbed from the DECA website, probably for marketing clarity.
