Development Ideas[edit]
Hi there! I recently reviewed this article and thought it had a great lead with a very informative picture. Additionally, I liked the section headers and thought the sentences were cited correctly. However, I'm currently considering developing this page a bit more using the existing information. Specifically, I plan on writing about the history of debt bondage, the government role in this issue such as the development of the 1976 Act, the workers involved in this practice, and initiatives to confront this issue. I have similar information about my plans on my User Page. Please feel free to check it out and take a look at some of the resources I plan on using. I'm open to any suggestions as well. Proposal[edit]
Hi there! I recently completed my proposal containing my future plans for updating this page. Specifically, I plan on expanding the number of sources that this article uses. Additionally, I plan on adding sections about the history of debt bondage in India, the reasons why this practice continued despite the 1976 Labor Act, who exactly is involved in debt bondage, consequences of this practice, and initiatives that have been created related to this topic. My proposal on my user page goes a lot more in depth about my plans and includes all of my sources. Please feel free to check it out and give me feedback! Recent Changes[edit]
Hi there! I reorganized this page a bit but did not delete any of the old information. Specifically, I added five new sections: History (subsections: Before Independence, Bonded Labor System Act of 1976), Forms of Debt Bondage(subsections: Agricultural Workers, Children), Contributing Factors(subsections: Caste System, Corruption), Consequences(subsection: Farmers' Suicides), and Initiatives (subsections: National Organizations, International Labor Organization). So far, I've taken notes about two sources. However, once I finish reading more sources, the citations to this page should be more diverse, and I'll have more information under each section. Peer Review[edit]
I think the article is great, I don’t think a whole lot of improvement is necessary. I was especially impressed by how you basically gave the article a complete overhaul and kept everything comprehensive yet to the point. I also really like how you added the quote from Kara as its own thing, it was a nice touch. One suggestion I have is making the lead a bit more inclusive of everything to come in the article, for example by alluding to the consequences as well as adding some examples of industries where debt bondage happens. Then, just making sure that terms like “dalit” are defined earlier on. I didn’t really notice any other terms that hindered readability. One thing I thought about as I was reading is maybe a bit more about why this issue is persisting despite the fact that it’s illegal. This was definitely addressed throughout the article (e.g. at the end of Bonded Labor System Act of 1976) but if there’s any more information it would be interesting to read! Nice work!
