ACCEPTING CHANGES[edit]

What do some people do when accepting changes?? February 13 and we have a British dead. Has he died in Australia?

I just guess that the one who accepted the change has not checked the source...

Annie Kett[edit]

This source says "second" oldest... http://www.limerickleader.ie/community/community-news/obituaries-deaths/birthday-girl-annie-is-ireland-s-second-oldest-1-4583834 Can we agree on "Irish centenarian"?

First, please sign your future comments with ~~~~. Second, yep, Mary Kate Byrne is the oldest. — Wyliepedia 00:46, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fabio Frittelli, the singer of MO-DO, committed suicide but not the founders (3 DJs) of the MO-DO project.

First, please sign your future comments with ~~~~. Second, thanks we fixed it on the main page. — Wyliepedia 21:35, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
then why was the entry corrected to MO-DO? Frittelli was the voice but not the only member of the group. See German entry. Royalrec (talk) 01:44, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
To me, the article Mo-Do implies Frittelli and Mo-Do are synonymous, Mo-Do being a "performance name". Much like Snoop Dogg is a performance name of Calvin Broadus. On that basis, I have listed the death under Mo-Do as the most common name of the individual. If that is not the case, then the article Mo-Do needs to be rewritten to state that it is a group, not a person. WWGB (talk) 02:30, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

February 2: Edith Houghton[edit]

I'm not going to make a big issue out of this, because of the weighted media, but in researching Edith Houghton, I found one solitary article that disclaims her being MLB's first female scout. The article states:

In 1946 Edith Houghton was hired as a scout by the Philadelphia Phillies. Some news stories erroneously referred to her as the first female scout, which was quickly refuted by George White in the Dallas Morning News. In the February 28, 1946, edition he said "Philly scribes calling Edith Houghton the first female scout are wrong. For many years Bessie Largent has been an accredited, full-salaried scout of the ChiSox."

Because there is only the one source, I will leave the claim on the main page, but, since this is now in question, I won't create Houghton's article. I don't know if any/many people would dispute the "first" claim for her article, but I'm not going to risk it. As a recent-DYK fan, I would like to do one for her "first," but now it seems she wasn't. — Wyliepedia 20:57, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Christopher Dorner/LAPD shootings[edit]

Is it too early to say that the body pulled out of the burned cabin after the standoff earlier this evening was his? He was alleged to have shot himself as officers were busting through the walls. --ColonelHenry (talk) 07:30, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

he was the only one in there, so its unofficially confirmed he is dead — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.95.1.134 (talk) 13:12, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here. Would add myself, but as "spree shooter" or "spree shooting suspect"? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 00:54, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Listing him as a murderer seems somehow pre-emptive as he was suspected, not convicted. Suspected Murderer or Suspected Spree Killer seems more proper. ChopperMags (talk) 16:22, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Huell Howser[edit]

I think Huell Howser should be notable enough to include on this list. Wbeaumo (talk) 08:30, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

He is included in Deaths in January 2013. Racklever (talk) 09:16, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So why does this article only include deaths in February 2013? Just because that's the current month? I don't get this. One would expect the "Deaths in 2013" article to either list ALL the deaths in 2013, or if that's too bulky then list the articles that list the deaths by month. I guess it's a compromise by listing the deaths of the current month and then listing the articles for prior months, but it sure is confusing. And why are there not corresponding articles "Deaths in 2012", "Deaths in 2011", etc.? Because those are past years? So next year this article will be removed? This is silly. Wbeaumo (talk) 03:10, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There is a link to prior months at the bottom of Deaths in 2013 so, yes, it does cover the whole year. WWGB (talk) 03:20, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ralph Ballentine - February 16[edit]

It all comes down to Wikipedia...

I had prepared to do Ralph Ballentine's article. Growing up in the States, c. 1970s, I've seen most of his artistic commercial design work. You couldn't change the channel on the tube without seeing that Green Giant, that Schlitz Bull, nor that Grrreat! Tiger. I just never knew the man behind those designs. 40 years later, he dies and pops up without an article on Wikipedia. It behooved me to create his. The darnedest thing: all of the sources I came across have him listed as the designer for those mascots (or some later variation), even those that do not read/hear about it elsewhere and almost mirror another's research for their own. However, when you go to research the mascots at Wikipedia, Ballentine's name is nowhere to be found. It's always "Joe Schmoe won a designing contest" or "some ad exec drew up something".

So where does notable sourceability begin and Wiki-reality end? Do I list three or four different sources to show how a Marine, who liked to draw, got out of serving in Pacific Theatre combat, because the higher-ups liked his talent and wanted him to draw for their military magazine? Or about the man who moved to a coastal city during the past 40 years and helped revive its cultural themes by designing some of its buildings?

Do I run the risk of offending the Wiki-world by giving the man proper credit for certain designs he may have changed, if those changes do not exist to the Wiki-world?

Wyliepedia 08:22, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

To answer your question, I think its shades of both. Charlie the Tuna was created by someone else based on an Hollywood actor at the time. The Agency in Chicago that Ballentine worked for called him in to take the concept and put it on the board. He then drew the animation for the script. So in a sense, while someone created the "concept" for each of the icons, Ballentine was responsible for putting the idea to use and creating the final work form of the concept. It would be something akin to a songwriter writing the song for the album and the musician bringing the song to life.Sunnydoo (talk) 17:56, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
