Recognition of news policy[edit]

Hi there, I just wanted to let it be known that I am aware of Wikipedia's policy of not being news coverage. Although this article's subject was only announced recently, I have put in effort to put only well-sourced, non-sensational claims and information in the article. I also believe this article is vital because, as a medical first, its recognition will stand the test of time. RFZYNSPY talk 22:02, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Namespace[edit]

This page is currently in the Wikipedia namespace. As an article, it ought be be in either the main article space or, perhaps, in draft. I'd move it but am not sure of RFZYNSPY's intentions and don't want to disrupt their activity while they are working on it. Andrew🐉(talk) 09:12, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • As RFZYNSPY hasn't edited for a few hours, I'll move into mainspace. Andrew🐉(talk) 10:15, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Andrew Davidson thank you for noticing this issue and fixing it. This is the first article I've created and as such I made a mistake not realizing it was in the wrong namespace. RFZYNSPY talk 16:59, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Note that I have added the article to a category which lists other similar transplant patients. Those other articles might be used to suggest further additions to this one. Andrew🐉(talk) 17:43, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The first ____?[edit]

Can we agree on a specific definition of what this represents the first of? The pig kidney recipient was brain dead according to the linked source, so was this "the first xenotransplantation of a genetically engineered animal organ into a living person"? Am I misinterpreting any specifics here RFZYNSPY talk 17:50, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1988 attack[edit]

Is is appropriate to mention the 1988 stabbing of Edward Shumaker as well as the conviction as it involved Bennett? https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/01/13/pig-heart-transplant-stabbing-david-bennett/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:100C:A202:9DD9:3C5C:DC8D:65BB:689B (talk) 20:11, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm RFZYNSPY editing from an IP address. I personally think the stabbing would not be relevant enough to mention if it were completely isolated. However, discussion about the medical ethics of giving lifesaving treatment to a convicted criminal and having that treatment be experimental seems to tie the two together. I think that the stabbing should be included, but only if its inclusion has a sentence to the effect of "This conviction sparked further discussion about the medical ethics of treating convicted criminals.", complete with source. 128.54.85.41 (talk) 20:19, 9 March 2022 (UTC) Validated. More news[edit]

Months after the man is dead, there are reliable sources about him. This leads me to believe that the AFD is no longer valid. The AFD may have reflected the status at the time of his death but news of the man continue to haunt the world, changing the circumstances of the AFD. If you really want to kill the article, I won't fight it. https://www.wsj.com/articles/pigs-heart-took-longer-to-generate-a-beat-in-transplant-patient-11667206801 GeorgeSpec (talk) 19:22, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
