Link to the song[edit]

The claim that this Daniel Tucker was the inspiration for the song "Old Dan Tucker" is quite specious. As far as I can tell, it's based on one magazine article from the 1960s (I've got a photocopy at home, and I can post the particulars later) and not much else. The Chamber of Commerce of Elbert County, Georgia, has sort of embraced the story to drum up tourism. The tune to the song has long been a part of American folklore, but the words were likely penned by Dan Emmett, who probably had no knowledge of Daniel Tucker the reverend. And calling Daniel Tucker an "American folk legend" is quite a stretch. — BrianSmithson 14:08, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just delete the "folk legend" sentence, it seems weak - the reason I added the article is that I've been doing work on the Find-A-Grave "famous people" list, and found the song article claiming that it was based on the person; the person definitely existed, and the claim has been made that he was the model for the song, so there's a linkage. Having separate articles for the song and the man seems worthwhile, although he does seem to have a quite limited degree of interest... --Alvestrand 14:26, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad to hear that; I feared that maybe you were an employee of the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce! :) I agree, Daniel Tucker has borderline notability.
