Brobecks[edit]

I'm separating the page for Dallon Weekes from the page for the Brobecks. He has been performing with Panic at the Disco for two years now, and information about that portion of his career is out of place in the Brobecks article. --Cyril montmorency (talk) 18:05, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not long after Dallon got his article, The Brobecks article was redirected to it. Where is the discussion about that redirect? - Frankie1969 (talk) 15:39, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Came here wondering the same thing. Seriously, where's that discussion?
If this page really is where we should stick the Brobecks article we should expand that section; I made this edit trimming a lot of the information there because it was on the other article. DTB (talk) 23:32, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting proposal[edit]

I propose that The Brobecks return to its original existence as a separate page, rather than as a redirect to this one. The band had multiple members with their own WP pages (not just Dallon) and sufficient notability for a standalone article. Frankie1969 (talk) 21:13, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Besides its influence on current music, Dallon's current project, I_Don't_Know_How_But_They_Found_Me has it's own page. --NoTalentHack (talk) 23:22, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose The Brobecks are not a notable band. Just because a couple members have separate articles, does not mean the band itself deserves one. The previous article (before it became a redirect) was mainly WP:OR and only contained primary sources. Sekyaw (talk) 01:05, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dead topic but The Brobecks really should be a separate page, The small section included here has almost no real info on them and is littered with inaccuracies. There is real interest in learning about the history of the band and their discography and I think that more than makes them noteworthy enough for their own page, they were incredibly popular in the SLC scene and Dallon wasn't even the only front man the band had, The other one isn't even mentioned in the damn article at all. Keeping it locked into a small footnote in Dallons Wikipedia is stupid, in my personal opinion Sledbed (talk) 16:34, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I side with Sledbed on this, I just made a wikipedia account to agree with Sledbed after pondering why the Brobecks don't have their own page, this is just opinion talk but I believe the brobecks are very much "notable" even more now post their songs getting viral in the modern age (and they were big in their home city back when they were active aswell), much more than some bands who have their own wikipedia pages even, the small section is such a small piece of a band's history which is huge, plus with all the misinformation that floats around the band, I think it would be a great idea to separate the Brobecks from Dallon Weekes' page Radbirb (talk) 20:01, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty. Odd.[edit]

@Factoidmactoid: Due to recent reverts, here are the reasons to include Ryan Ross, Jon Walker, and Pretty. Odd, and how they are completely relevant to Weekes' recruitment.

  • For the addition of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker to Weekes' article, this is relevant due to the fact that Weekes was their immediate replacement after they left. Because of their departures, Weekes was hired.
  • As for Pretty. Odd., this is also relevant as this was the time Weekes was hired. Ross and Walker left and Weekes was hired, all during their tour for Pretty. Odd.

Although the info about Ross and Walker happened before Weekes' recruitment, it states why and when he was recruited, which is all important and relevant to the subject.

Why? Because Ross and Walker left.

When? During Pretty. Odd.

Sekyaw (talk) 22:03, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but you're wrong to post any of this info on a page about Dallon Weekes and his history.
By your logic, one could post about 'Fever' era Panic, because those events led to walker being hired. Any and all P!ATD events that may have happened prior to Dallon being hired are unarguably irrelevant to Dallon Weekes history.
[end copy]
@Factoidmactoid: That is not my point at all. What I'm trying to say is that the fact that the events took place because (not before) his recruitment, they should be included. If the events took place before Weekes' recruitment, but had nothing to do with him, I would not have included it. But, the fact that Weekes joined because Ross and Walker left, then that is the importance of including it in the article page. Although prior to his recruitment, because they left, Weekes was hired. When? During Pretty. Odd. Weekes joined because all of this information happened. Sekyaw (talk) 02:45, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, your dispute is irrelevant in terms of wikipedia rules. the statement

"After the departure of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker in 2009, Weekes and Ian Crawford were hired to replace Ross and Walker for Panic! at the Disco on a temporary, touring basis for their second studio album Pretty. Odd. (2008)."'

is unreferenced. The opinion why they were hired is at this moment only wikipedian's personal opinion. Find a reliable reference which draws and explains the described connections (departure, hire. P.O.), and then it will be a valid inclusion. - üser:Altenmann >t 14:29, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Altenmann: Reference added. Sekyaw (talk) 21:01, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Altenmann: I added two in-line citations that clearly mention the info on Ross, Walker, P.O., and the hiring of Weekes.
"Shortly after the release of its Sophomore album Pretty Odd in 2008, Panic! At The Disco hit a rough patch of transition. The departure of two members caused a delay in recording a new album, which ultimately shifted the band’s budding creative compass. Fortunately for Panic, singer Brendon Urie recruited bassist Dallon Weekes from the band the Brobecks to fill in as a touring bassist."
"Replacing Ross on guitar is Ian Crawford, who spent time with Panic!’s Decaydance labelmates the Cab. And on bass, it’ll be singer/songwriter Dallon Weekes, mastermind behind Utah-based indie act the Brobecks." Sekyaw (talk) 19:36, 5 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Is info relevant although it is prior to the subject? I added info on Dallon Weekes stating why and when the he was recruited into the band, Panic! at the Disco. [1] Although referenced by in-line citations, a user is reverting the edits due to the info being prior to the subject's recruitment, to which he says is irrelevant to the subject due to the info being prior to is association with the group. Although it is prior to the subject's recruitment, it gives valid, referenced info of the reasons the subject was recruited. Nowhere is info prior to a subject's history with a group forbidden in an article page, especially when it is relevant to the topic. Sekyaw (talk) 22:42, 10 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - As an outside observer glancing into this dispute, I find that Sekyaw's arguments are convincing. Causal relationships between facts, regardless of being prior, are relevant. As long as the causal link is referenced and not WP:OR, I see no reason for its exclusion and a very good reason for its inclusion. The time period is mostly irrelevant, the only relevance is the causality. Fieari (talk) 04:52, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I see no reason for their exclusion. When a band member is recruited, it is not done in a vacuum. To indicate why there was a space in the band is perfectly reasonable. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:23, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

With all do respect I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME, the name of the band he’s in, should be in all caps. Thank you 😊 192.159.203.156 (talk) 21:25, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's stylised in ALL CAPS but the page is in Caps Like This. Declining your edit request for now as it wouldn't follow the consensus. Regards, --Ferien (talk) 21:34, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

“best known as” section.[edit]

At this point I feel like Weekes is more well-known as the lead singer and bass player for the band I Don’t Know How But They Found Me. He left his previous band almost 6 years ago and most of the people I have talked to weren’t aware that he was in that band before starting his own band. 89.205.131.251 (talk) 20:56, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Plus, he’s stated he doesn’t really like being heavily associated with Panic given how poorly he was treated by the band and he wants people to focus on his personal work. Not sure if that’s relevant with NPOV and all that, I’m still pretty new here, but I think it’s worth mentioning. I definitely think people know him best from idkhow, no one really knew he was in panic except dedicated fans. At least I think the section should say he’s known best from panic AND idkhow Eatingbugs (talk) 14:15, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Completely leave out "is best known as", change to "was". Removes any subjectivity.--☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 22:12, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
