Implications of the statement that Schutz's Dafne was the "first German opera"; use of the word "Singspiel"[edit]

There's two things that could be improved, in my opinion, in this article:

First the article quotes a "traditional" view that Dafne was "the first German opera" but does not assign a source to that view and does not explain what that characterization entails: viz. is there an implication, when it is called "the first German opera", that everything was sung, that there were recitatives? But later German operas most often include spoken dialogues and are still called "operas". If, on the other hand, there is no implication, when it is called "the first German opera", that everything was sung then what is different between the traditional view and the more recent one? In other words it would be helpful to readers to explicitly detail what the implication is of that characterization as "first German opera" and how it is different from the more recent claims that it was just a "spoken drama with sung numbers".

Second the article uses in several places the word "Singspiel" but it is not clear if that usage comes from the sources themselves or if it is just an editor's inference. I replaced for the moment those instances with more neutral phrases that more closely match what is indeed backed by what's quoted from sources.

I'd suggest renaming this article to Die Dafne, in line with Gagliano's La Dafne. —capmo (talk) 19:42, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
