Airport (1970 film)[edit]

This is very similar to the scenario and damage apparent in the Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin movie, Airport.

Flight number[edit]

ASN lists the flight number as "D3 159"; D3 is the IATA code for the airline, so it should be "Flight 159", not "Flight 3159". Meltdown627 (talk) 19:31, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The "See also" section[edit]

Pilot[edit]

Am I correct in thinking that Vlakto is as shortened form of Vladimir? Also, do you think that the pilot's age and ethnicity is pertinent information in the lead? Orange Suede Sofa suggests this is not important information. LoudLizard (talk) 19:02, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It Vlatko not Vlakto, but yes it seems to be a "Croatian, Serbian, Macedonian diminutive of Vladimir." But he's referred to as "Vlatko" in all the WP:RS sources I have seen, so maybe that is his preference. That Turkish Airlines flight..[edit]

Anyone know that type of aircraft was scheduled for what's believed to have been the original target, namely a Turkish Airlines flight? Thanks.

@Wiki-ny-2007: I presume the flight being referenced by the Al Jazeera Article is the Mogadishu-Djibouti-Istanbul flight, THY686, since this is the only Turkish Airlines flight operating from Djibouti. According to Google Flights and FlightAware, this route, both between Istanbul and Djibouti and between Djibouti and Mogadishu, is normally served by an A320. - ah, thanks. So the planes were roughly the same size and configuration. I had been considering the possibility that the original target was smaller, hence more likely to have been brought down by the explosion. The fact that the explosion happened at 10,000 feet rather than cruising altitude, plus lots of luck... made the big difference. wiki-ny-2007 (talk) 17:41, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think a map would be appropriate for this article, but am not sure how to create one. Could someone make one that shows the location of Aden Adde International Airport, Djibouti–Ambouli International Airport and the location that the burnt body was found (Balad). Possible letter from Somali Embassy[edit]

Somalian local media has speculated that a letter (dated March 2015) from the Somali Embassy in Ankara requested that the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu issue a diplomatic visa for Abdullahi Abdisalam Borleh, the passenger who died in the bombing. There are not many sources for this information, and the sources I could find don't seem very reliable, so I don't want to add it to the article yet. There are two websites I could find that mention it: Webpage 1, Webpage 2, both in Somali. I originally heard about this from this tweet, but obviously that's not a good source of information either! This article also mentions the letter writing that "In itself that is no great surprise. Somalis have a hard time getting visas and often pay bribes to leave the country, so the referral letter does not necessarily imply bomber had connections inside the Somali government."
