Merge[edit]

I think that team chasing has nothing to do with cross-country in eventing. I personally think this article could be merged into the eventing one if there must be a merge. I hesitate to do anything with the British events as they are often quite different. But we could maybe consult Richard on this...? Montanabw(talk) 23:04, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So, if I'm reading your tags right, we should merge both team chasing and cross-country equestrianism into the three-day eventing article? So cross-country equestrianism shouldn't have its own article? Dana boomer (talk) 19:50, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not exactly!!! Team chasing is something in the UK that has nothing whatsoever to do with eventing other than being outside over similar obstacles. This article is all about the cross-country phase of eventing, and if anything, team chasing needs to stay solo but this article could merge into the eventing article. However, what I think happened is that because we have separate articles for show jumping and dressage, someone thought cross-country needed its own article, even though is usually is not a free-standing competition. So I don't know if my proposed merge is a dumb idea or not and am open to further discussion. (As an aside, the eventing article isn't all that great, but that's a different problem). In short, we have a bunch of little stubby articles left over from back when User:Eventer was really active, and while she is to be commended for creating all the material, there is some need do de-Balkanize them. (Wasn't it you who merged all the separate articles on jumping obstacles into one bigger article??) Montanabw(talk) 21:56, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this article, the way it is written, is redundant in the face of the Eventing article, since this one seems only to address cross-country in eventing terms. A stand-alone article for Hunter Trials may have merit, but is probably so differently managed and implemented both across and within countries that it would be very difficult to assign any meaningful information other than that it exists.
