Earle as co-writer[edit]
The article currently contains the text "this is a departure for Earle, who had not co-written before." I believe this is not true, so I deleted the text and Koavf reverted my edit with the comment "Sourced info." This presumably refers to the Michelle Green New York Times interview that quotes Colvin as saying something like "Steve never writes with anyone else." I was able to see this when I made the edit, but I can't now due to the Times paywall.
If you look at the Wikipedia pages for Earle's albums (listed on Steve Earle discography), you can see that he co-wrote four songs on his very first album, Guitar Town (1986), and he continued to co-write occasionally up to The Low Highway in 2013, which had two songs co-written with Lucia Micarelli.
So I think the statement that Earle had not co-written before is incorrect, though sourced, and should be removed. Colvin may have been ill-informed or may just have exaggerated the infrequency of Earle's collaborations.
I don't think I have previously been in this situation of disagreeing with the reversion of an edit I made and I am not sure what to do beyond opening this topic on the Talk page, so I will just leave this here for a while and see what happens. Frumpet (talk) 13:25, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

- That change certainly makes the text much more accurate. I would quibble that breaking Earle's previous record of four collaborations on one album with six is not significant enough to mention, but if you are convinced that it is, I am okay with letting the statement stand.
