Checklist for the Completed Guidelines[edit]

  1. An explanation of the suburb's location.
  2. A history of the area, including (at a bare minimum) how it was created and when.
  3. An explanation of the suburb's name.

For an article to be considered a featured suburb it must be of high quality. It must have all the attributes of a normal featured article (this means a good lead section, excellent prose, etc), and must also have the following information:

  1. A map, showing where the suburb is located in Adelaide. Tip: getting a good map under an acceptable copyright / license is not currently very easy, but attempts are being made to improve this...
  2. Population statistics (I've got the data from the census, and I've used a bit for transport. I'll write up the rest.) Bilby (talk) 10:22, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Transport information (e.g. does the suburb rely of buses, trains, ferries, etc).
  4. Information about local events if applicable(e.g. community festivals, council-organised events, etc). (I'm presuming that there are none, although there was a festival thing over at Mitchell Park Reserve that might count) Bilby (talk) 10:22, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Information about local landmarks or features, along with pictures of these landmarks or features.
  6. A more complete section on the suburb's history (e.g. notable historical events, times when the suburb grew quickly, etc).
  7. Notable citizens who were born or lived in the suburb (optional, but if they existed then they should be in the article). Tip: they only need to be in list form, together with less than 20 words saying who they were.
  8. A reference section. All facts need to be attributable to an external source of information (say a newspaper report/cutting, book about the town, local council document).
  9. Information about any prominent local organisations (churches, historical societies, local clubs, etc). If you prefer, you can just include links to local organisations in an External Links section.
  10. Added brownie points go to anyone who researches the area and puts in a section detailing the past aboriginal culture of the area.
  11. Optional: Politics (local issues, what state and federal electorate the suburb is in, who are the current local members, is it a safe Labor seat/safe Libs seat/marginal seat).
  12. Have coordinates

I'm also personally inclined to add:

  1. Industry (mostly Mitsubishi and Tenneco)
  2. Heath services
  3. Shopping

Bilby (talk) 10:19, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mitsubishi and Tenneco is very relevant due to the controversy when Mitsubishi was forced to sell Tenneco (then called Monroe Whylie). Wayne (talk) 16:36, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I had a look online but there is nothing i can find so far. I worked two 6 week contracts a year for Mitsubishi from Dec 1985 to 1998 so know quite a bit about them. Here's what I remember. Mitsubishi owned W.H. Wylie & Co and during the mid 1980s there were a lot of strikes in the auto industry. Whylie supplied shocks to Mitsubishi, Holden and Ford and quite often there would be a shortage due to strikes. The other car manufacturers lobbied the government to force MM to sell Whylie as they believed MM was getting preferential treatment for supplies. In 1985 MM sold a controlling interest in Whylie to an American company named Monroe (Monroe's parent company was Tenneco) and the plant/company was renamed Monroe Australia Pty Ltd but the was better known as Monroe Whylie because that was the signage they had on the building. The other auto companies still would not accept MM still having part ownership and MM was forced a few years later to sell their remaining interest to Monroe. I can't remember the year but think it was 1987 because I included Whylie in the MM contract three times (Dec 85, June 86 and Dec 86) and the final sell off ended my work there. I do know the whole incident was very big because MM didn't want to sell. Although refered to as Tenneco now (again because of signage) it is actually still Monroe Australia Pty Ltd and is a completely separate entity from Tenneco so should not be refered to by that name. Scout Hall[edit]

I gather that there's a Scout Hall or something just past Cosgrove Hall, according to teh street directory. I'll chase that up, but I have no idea what other clubs might be here. Bilby (talk) 13:02, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes there is one on byron av. It has closed down now and is used as a storage shed primarily for Comedy Caper's group. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.169.212.19 (talk) 08:02, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
