POV desegregation paragraph[edit]

In an edit summary, orlady noted that this paragraph:

Violent confrontations, and Clinton High School was bombed in 1958 (Tennessee Historical Quarterly, Vol LVI, p 294-307). Although Clinton officials often claim racial violence was the result of "outsider" interference, research shows that the actual source of the conflict was the result of a threat to "well-defined and familiar patterns of social interaction" (such as racial superiority, referenced in Tennessee Historical Quarterly, Volume LVI, pp. 294-309). Instead of being external, these problems were "internal and contextual: threats to racial hierarchy" (Tennessee Historical Quarterly, Volume LVI, p. 307).

is POV. I agree, so I'm moving it here to the talk page. The citations are admirable, but to be NPOV the paragraph needs to be reworded to show who holds the cited opinions. All this will take is looking up the citation, but perhaps the person who wrote this paragraph can add the names and save someone a trip to the library? --Allen 21:39, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changes, 2/21/2008[edit]

I made several changes, including expanding or rewording several sections to make them more specific and complete. Two issues remain:

1. I can't make sense of the sentence, "which eased after the Treaty of Tellico in 1798 (including an origination point for the land to be relinquished from the Cherokee being the Tellico Blockhouse) allowed for greater ease in settling the area." Are you trying to say the treaty moved the U.S.-Cherokee boundary south to Tellico Blockhouse?

2. The statement, "the current vice mayor of Clinton and Clinton High student at the time, admitted he was not for integration but would abide by the law" is badly in need of a citation. It's potentially libelous without one. The vice-mayor's name should also be included, since vice mayors often rotate in and out of office.
