Fan base[edit]

I removed this section - there are several Facebook groups for Winkleman: do we need to record them all for every celebrity? Grusl (talk) 13:47, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i agree in principle, but the fan group in question is particularly relevant in demonstrating the extent of her popularity. (Nickynocky (talk) 11:25, 9 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]
no more than anyone else's. it's just fan cruft. 122.167.84.62 (talk) 08:22, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
i disagree, if you read the group in question you would see that that level of strange hero-worship is extraordinary. it is of note because she is nowhere near famous enough to ordinarily garner such devotion. (Nickynocky (talk) 11:25, 9 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]
She is quite famous in the UK. It is common for attractive, pleasant young women to be popular. Jim Michael (talk) 23:23, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

and what is with changing all the claudia's to winkleman's??? It's so petty (Nickynocky (talk) 11:25, 9 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Please explain why you believe it's "petty"? It is in accordance with Wikipedia's manual of style. Referring to a person by first name only is maybe OK on a fan website, but as you know, WIkipedia isn't that :-) --Bonadea (talk) 12:12, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
i wasn't aware of that, sorry. now i know i retract my comment of petty - i thought it was your style overriding mine, rather than that of wikipedia's rules (Nickynocky (talk) 12:24, 9 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Alterations and improvements[edit]

I have greatly added to the page, and have done so thoroughly and sensitively. i hope this is made obvious and is taken well (Nickynocky (talk) 11:25, 9 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Most of the alterations you have made have been correct eg. whenever i strayed into personal opinion. but do try and make sure that when you do change what i've written, you replace it with an actually coherent sentence. My stuff keeps being changed for things that don't make sense (Nickynocky (talk) 11:30, 9 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]
In fact, most of the changes appear to be to introduce non-neutral language about the person, which is not acceptable. Could you try fixing that, please? --Bonadea (talk) 12:12, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
granted and i have tried to change that, but whoever is amending the non-neutral language seems to be doing so by crudely deleting it, thus rendering the remaining sentences half complete. i do see your point though (Nickynocky (talk) 12:23, 9 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Is it not Winkelman!?!?!? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.207.136.226 (talk) 19:24, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Charity and other works[edit]

Tone of article[edit]

This page reads like an article in a trashy celebrity gossip magazine. I've made some changes to using more encyclopaedic language, but it needs more.78.148.192.243 (talk) 16:29, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to agree with the above user who mentioned the need for a cleanup. This page is an abomination and has virtually no credibility as an encyclopaedia article. It reads like a fansite put together by a 13 year old girl and has absolutely no neutral point of view. I'm half inclined to blast the whole thing away and start from scratch. Who the hell is writing this twoddle?--Solar Eclipse (talk) 02:24, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I made some changes to the article but it is still nowhere near up the the quality you would expect.--Solar Eclipse (talk) 02:52, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What Are You Like?[edit]

The BBC2 series is mentioned in the future tense, that it is reported she will be part of it, and that the above is the rumoured title. The programme is currently being shown on BBC2, but I don't know if she is involved or not. Could someone who knows please find out. If she is part of it, the mention of it should be updated to the present tense, and 'reported' and 'rumoured' removed. If she isn't involved, the whole paragraph about it should be removed from the article. Werdnawerdna (talk) 01:37, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth[edit]

This article lacks that basic, vital piece of biographical info. Information yes (talk) 10:02, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Any other siblings?[edit]

Is Sophie her only sibling? Information yes (talk) 10:02, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Education[edit]

Re: "obtaining an MA Hons degree in History of Art"

One doesn't "obtain an MA Hons degree" from Cambridge. One may obtain a BA and, subsequently, after a suitable period of time has elapsed, one may pay the fee (£5) to purchase an MA. This medieval practice is the way that both Oxford and Cambridge offer MA degrees. They are not academic qualifications, as they would be at other universities, but, rather, a sort of medieval rite of passage demonstrating that you have achieved a period of experience in the world since obtaining your degree.

If she understands and respects a Cambridge education Claudia would wish the article to refer to her Cambridge BA. Currently it appears to be the work of a (non-Oxbridge educated) BBC publicity employee (in keeping with the usual dominance of 'media personality' articles). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.179.166.3 (talk) 03:32, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The regulations must require more than stated above. Unless a reliable citation is found that contradicts the BBC one it is supposed to stay the way it is. It would be useful to state the years she was studying at New Hall and year of graduation.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 20:32, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Your article states she was born in 1972, obtained a degree at New Hall Cambridge and started work for Central TV in 1991. This would make her 19 years of age when she finished university and started work. Is this correct? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.28.241.117 (talk) 19:09, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The picture[edit]

The picture on this page looks terrible!! WILL SOMEONE PLEASE CHANGE IT!!!!

Then you will need to provide a free picture that we can use. Wikipedia cannot use copyrighted pictures, which basically means that any picture you can just find on the web is not allowed. If you have such a picture, let us know here and I can explain how to upload it. Qwyrxian (talk) 07:40, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Radio 2[edit]

Was Ken Bruce's slot altered for Claudia Winkleman as it says she did 10am - 12noon but Ken's slot is 9.30am - 12noon and it has been like that as far as I can remember (at least 10 years). Will1701 (talk) 18:17, 15 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Another winning image[edit]

Wikipedia's bizarre standards on fair use image usage have clearly succeeded again. What a useful contribution to this article. Woodshed (talk) 12:32, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Eve Pollard's website[edit]

What is this doing here? Is there a link on Sophie Winkleman's wiki page as well? Not sure of the news value on her fringe and makeup at the moment. Slightnostalgia (talk) 14:34, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

BBC Pay[edit]

I'm editing out the comparison to Chris Evans pay. It is relevant to say she is the highest paid woman on the BBC payroll but a direct comparison to the highest paid man is neither necessary nor appropriate. Wikipedia is not a soapbox Hmcst1 (talk) 20:02, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's debateable, especially in the light of this. But I guess, as Winkleman didn't sign that letter, a comparison could be interpreted as "soapboxing". Martinevans123 (talk) 21:34, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
