Key reference - Harold Minton

I don't have a copy of the book, but a key reference to the history of Clarksville and Montgomery County was written years ago by then county historian Ursula Smith Beach. The title is "Along the Warioto" (warioto was the Indian name for the Cumberland River). I believe she wrote it in 1963. This is a great source of early Clarksville history. Volunteer State Mario GRAY[edit]

According to tennessee.gov and www.50states.com, Tennessee earned the nickname "Volunteer State" per the following:

"Tennessee has had several nicknames, but the most popular is “The Volunteer State.” The nickname originated during the War of 1812, in which the volunteer soldiers from Tennessee, serving under Gen. Andrew Jackson, displayed marked valor in the Battle of New Orleans."

Why did edits with public photos of the city get erased?

Because you cannot simply take photos off the 'net and upload them to Wikipedia, see WP:IUP. We cannot use "non-commercial use only" photos. Thanks/wangi 17:21, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jimi Hendrix[edit]

Jimi was listed as both the lead off Clarksvillian and as a person who called Clarksville home. I've dropped him from the first mention as he is from Seattle not Clarksville. He did live in Clarksvile for a couple of years so he belongs in the second list. s-slaytor

Crime[edit]

Clarksville has had a pretty severe (and worsening) crime problem for years, and is known throughout the region as having a serious ongoing corruption problem; should we add a section concerning this?Paganize (talk) 06:45, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The decimal latitude and longitude are incorrect and place this city somewhere in KY. I cannot figure out how to fix it, but these are the correct coordinates from what I can tell:

Latitude: 36.5297222 36° 31' 47" N 36 degrees, 31 minutes, 47 seconds North

Longitude: -87.3594444 87° 21' 33" W 87 degrees, 21 minutes, 33 seconds West

Well I don't know which coordinances are correct between mine and Mightypenguin's. I did the coordinate check, as described in this section. When I did this, I came up with these coordinates:
36°32′08″N 87°21′11″W / 36.535571°N 87.352982°W / 36.535571; -87.352982

I did some further searching, http://atlas.mapquest.com/maps/latlong.adp, and found that both mine and Mightypenguin's are correct for Clarksville, Tennessee; while Mightypenguin's are a little bit closer to the precise location. No mention of 'Bell Witch'[edit]

I'm surprised the article never mentions the Bell Witch incidents of 1817 - 1820. Apparently the Bell property is just outside Clarksville.

Today, the abandoned homestead of the Bell family is owned by a private trust, and no visitors are allowed to explore the property. The only site connected with the legends of the Bell Witch and open to the public is the Bell Witch Cave, which continues to produce accounts of unusual lights and eerie images on photographs.

This article is on Clarksville, TN not the Clarksville Montgomery County School System CMCSS. The photograph of Montgomery Central Highschool which does not serve Clarksville, TN should not be in the article and should be removed. Credibility of the "Occupy Clarksville" section[edit]

"…the group reached a consensus that they would start occupying McGregor Park on the night of 24 October. At 10pm on that night Clarksville police informed protestors that they would arrest anyone who was still in the park after midnight. An international call-in campaign to the Clarksville Police Department was mobilized in minutes and at midnight protestors entered into negotiations with police that resulted in their moving to Public Square which is open 24 hours."

Really? REALLY?

You would have a bit more credibility for this rather grandiose statement if you had a reference for this besides the Occupy Clarksville Face Book Page to back it up.

Indeed, I question the whole relevance the Occupy Clarksville section being on the Clarksville TN Wikipedia page 12 or so malcontents really do not rate the space, but at least be honest about the facts.

Racial Makeup-Census Data?[edit]

"The racial makeup of the city was 15.6% White, 73.23% African American, 0.6% Native American, 2.3% Asian, 0.5% Pacific Islander, 2.61% from other races, and 5.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.3% of the population. The census recorded 4.4% foreign-born residents in Clarksville."
