City of Canterbury Bankstown[edit]

Should that be Canterbury–Bankstown as opposed to Canterbury-Bankstown? --Qwerty Binary (talk) 15:25, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Their website https://www.cbcity.nsw.gov.au/CSP refers to City of Canterbury-Bankstown in various places such as https://www.cbcity.nsw.gov.au/cbcity2028/about-our-city where even the URL mentions City. It has been a City ever since the combinationFleet Lists (talk) 09:43, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Over the past week I have changed all localities in the area, surrounding Local Government areas and places of note to point to City of Canterbury-Bankstown - there is still one to be done but it is a bit more complex. There are still a few other issues to be addressed and I hope to provide some more information in the next few days on at least the first of these. Fleet Lists (talk) 04:06, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Historically there was a template for each local government area in Sydney listing their suburbs. These can be seen under Category:Sydney suburb templates [1]. In the case of Canterbury-Bankstown there were separate templates Template:Sydney Canterbury suburbs and Template:Sydney Bankstown suburbs prior to their amalgamation. It appears that the Canterbury suburbs were moved to the Bankstown templatein 2016 without it being renamed. Not a problem in itself. The Canterbury one is now not linked from any location. However there is a third template Template:City of Canterbury-Bankstown topics which before 2016 just related to Bankstown topics but has since been expanded to include Canterbury suburbs and railway stations but not other articles such as Bethungra, Canterbury which I am proposing to add in the next week. The first subheading in that template is suburbs within Canterbury Bankstown where the information is a duplicate of the information in the Sydney Bankstown template. Some articles such as Lakemba, New South Wales contain both templates which looks silly seeing the same information twice. Hence I am proposing to redirect the two old templates to the third one described and then clean up any duplications. Please discuss.Fleet Lists (talk) 06:31, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As I have received no responses, I have started work on this where the old Canterbury template has been redirected and all suburbs including Lakemba are all pointing to the third template referred to above, only. Other articles will be changed as time permits.Fleet Lists (talk) 01:31, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is now all City of Canterbury-Bankstown even Template:City of Canterbury-Bankstown suburb map with all articles which contain that map having had the links changed so no longer relying on the redirect.Fleet Lists (talk) 06:51, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm making a map of the local government areas of Australia for the article. Interestingly, the ABS (which provides the easiest access to free GIS data for LGAs I can find) seems to still classify Canterbury-Bankstown as an 'area', not a 'city' as all the other LGAs of NSW with city status are. That made me search the NSW Government Gazette, and I can't actually find anywhere that C-B has been proclaimed a city under the legislation. Does that mean that this council is actually just using the title 'City' as a marketing term? - ҉ Randwicked ҉ 06:11, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This may be the case because it is the amalgamation of two cities City of Canterbury (New South Wales) and City of Bankstown in 2016.Fleet Lists (talk) 06:57, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Probably the same as happened with the Central Coast Council then, which became a city as Gosford was a city (don't think Wyong was beforehand). Except, it's listed as a city in the data I have (the ABS boundaries from 2019). Curious. I wonder if they forgot to make an official proclamation? - ҉ Randwicked ҉ 13:25, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
