About GSBs[edit]

The History section here seems to suggest that the GSB Shenvis had no leader (Swami) in the 1600's, but the Kashi Mutt was founded in 1542. Wouldn't the GSB Shenvis bear allegiance to that Mutt and its Swami ? --Abhijitpai 04:24, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Abhijit, the Bhanap Shenvis were Smarthas and the Kashi Matha belongs to the Dvaita Sampradaya. The Kaivalya Matha at Kavale Goa is still considered as the Aadi-Matha Imperium^Caelestis 18:21, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup-rewrite[edit]

Being a proud Chitrapur Saraswat myself, I find it unacceptable that this article about the community is of such poor standards. I have placed it under cleanup-rewrite tag. The article requires firstly -

detailed referencing with footnotes.
rewrite based on that.
NPOV.

In the absence of referencing an anon editor has made large edits and no rationale can be given for either accepting or reverting this edit. It is also requested that any editor please check that he is logged in before editing.AshLin 16:40, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting good faith edit[edit]

I reverted the recategorisation of CSB from 'Social group of India' into 'Social Groups of Karnataka'. This group is now cosmopolitan and Karnataka though the origin is not its defining geographic character. AshLin (talk) 16:25, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Chitrapur Saraswats started leaving their adopted homeland of Karnataka for urban metros in the 19th century. The titles of articles on Wikipedia about Chitrapur Saraswats always use a Kannada translation but most CSBs can't even read it and are more fluent in Hindi, Marathi or English than Kannada. Is there any way we can ensure Wikipedia title translations on CSB people or culture are changed to Devanagri as that is the one Indian script most CSBs can read? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.24.104.220 (talk) 20:39, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rewriting history[edit]

The paragraph on history in its current state looks like the history of all Konkani speaking communities of Canara. There is mention of:

the torture undergone by the Mangalorean Catholics at Shrirangapatnam
There is mention of the Kashi Matha and Gokarna Matha
There is mention of Dvaita GSBs

The Bhanap community belong to the Advaita Darshana, Smartha Sampradaya, Rigvedic. H.H. Swami Keshavashram brought back all Dvaita Bhanaps back to the Smartha fold hence the mention of Vaishnava Mathas is not relevant to this topic. The Gokarn Matha the article mentions is the Partakali. However the Bhanap math at Gokarna is called Bandikeri Matha, the mahasamadhi of H.H. Swami Aadi Parijnanashram. There is no mention of the Toggu Matha opposite to the Ganesh temple.

The Chitrapur math was not established as they were unable to sustain their unity with the Kavale Matha; they did not accept the Mathadhipatya of Shrimat Sachidananda Saraswati Swami Gauḍapādāchārya (Vittal Shyama Sharma Shenavi Ranganekar) who was given sanyasadeeksha in spite of being a grihastashrami. Its sickening to see film actors facing one all the time - that too minor starlets. Please have a mix of famous amchis from all walks of life & get rid of the bimbos. Notable people[edit]

I have just emptied the list of notable people. Some did not have articles, which is pretty much a prerequisite for being listed. Some were sourced to IMDb or other unreliable websites. Others were sourced to things that verified what they did (eg: involvement in the co-op movement) but not their caste affiliation. Others had sources that verified their caste but didn't not show them self-identifying as such (which is necessary for those people who are alive). It was hopeless and I'm getting very fed up of having to keep fixing this on Brahmin articles. - Sitush (talk) 15:50, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
